Time flies when you're having fun!

Take a trip with us down memory lane as we take a look back at all the fun we had this summer!

This year we had the privilege of hosting over 300 students across our STEM academies and the inaugural Exelon Foundation Boys to STEM Academy. Students learned all about energy as they spent the week creating their very own microgrids. They utilized the skills they learned, from circuitry to team building, to complete their week-long challenge. They had the opportunity to enhance their professional networking skills throughout the week, culminating in a networking luncheon with Exelon employees.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this summer!

Exelon Foundation STEM Academy

The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy is in its 7th year! In 2024, we added a fourth location. Sixty young women joined us in each location, Baltimore, Chicago, DC (College Park, MD), and Philadelphia for a week-long program.

That’s a wrap on the 2024 STEM Academies, and we’re proud to say we now have over 1,200 alumnae! Thank you all for a record-breaking summer as we continue to expand the program.

While the STEM Academies for this summer may be over, the fun is not!

We encourage all alumnae to stay engaged throughout the year. In-person and virtual STEM Days, our school year mentorship program with Exelon employees, the STEM Ambassador program, and more are all ways to stay involved!

Exelon Foundation Boys to STEM Academy

2024 marked the inaugural Exelon Foundation Boys to STEM Academy!

We had the honor of hosting 60 young men from across the Exelon service territories at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). Participants traveled from Chicago, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington D.C. staying on campus at UMD during the week-long program.

We encourage all the young men who joined us this summer to stay involved and to stay connected!

We are extremely grateful for the success of our inaugural Exelon Foundation Boys to STEM Academy. These young men were able to come together and work on their week-long challenge while creating bonds to last a lifetime.

Calling all STEM Academy and Boys to STEM Academy alumni!

Highlighting our

Summer Interns!

We are excited to feature the 2024 Exelon Foundation STEM Academy interns who are worked across the Exelon service territories this summer.

In this issue you will hear from Abby Cooley who interned at PECO this past summer. Abby took part in the 2022 Exelon Foundation STEM Academy and is a 2023 Chris Crane Memorial Scholarship Winner. Abby currently studies Engineering at Lafayette College.

An excerpt from Abby:

I attended the 2022 Exelon Foundation STEM Academy and it was one of my first real introductions to navigating professional environments. It's definitely a learning curve, but the STEM Academy gave me an awesome start. I’ve been able to keep building on that experience during my PECO internship this summer. Thanks to both the STEM Academy and my PECO internship, I've gained the tools to feel more comfortable in a professional setting and develop essential soft skills, like effective communication.

A typical day at my internship involves me hopping on the bus to the Plymouth Service Center. I start with the 8 a.m. Business Planning & Support meeting on Microsoft Teams from my cubicle, since our team is spread out across various locations. Then I spend some time working on my project, meet with my two mentors to get feedback, and present our progress to my supervisor. I wrap up the day by implementing the suggested edits and revisions before heading home. Some days, I shadow colleagues in my department, and other times, I’m at the Main Office Building in Center City Philadelphia for intern and networking events.

I’m not always at my desk, though—sometimes I’m out in the field. On those days, I suit up in PPE and head to a job site with a Senior Contract Coordinator to ensure everything’s running smoothly and safely.

After my first experience with the STEM Academy, I was thrilled to stay involved by joining the Ambassador program. This opportunity allowed me to return and visit the 2023 and 2024 Academies, which was not only a full-circle moment but also an incredibly rewarding experience.

It’s been inspiring to see new participants dive into the same journey that sparked my own growth. Being part of this community has deepened my connection to the Exelon family, and I’m truly grateful for the chance to build lasting relationships with so many talented and supportive individuals. These connections have enriched my personal and professional life, and I look forward to staying involved with Exelon’s programs for years to come.
