SEPTEMBER 2ND, 2020
“Remembering where and why you fell and learning the lessons well is a good starting point to start all over again with a better insight and a renewed fortitude and wit to dare again for victory!”

― Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
"Hello, September" = "Hello, Back to School"

Kids are returning to school next week in the Elkhorn area. Some kids have already celebrated their first day and parents have splashed pictures all over social media. I delight in the pictures of the kindergartners who are marching on to the bus for the first time, masked, and yet you can see that they are smiling. The proud 6th grader who is finally starting junior high, also masked, and eager to move on and perhaps get back on the football field. The high school senior, masked, and beyond excited to be finishing up her K-12 career as a student and beginning the 180 day countdown to graduation. I have to believe that our students are excited to be returning to school, even with a mask.

As the mother of four children, three of which are now school age, I am asked frequently, "Are your kids going back to school? Are they going back in person? Are they doing virtual?" I am pleased to tell these inquisitive folk that our school district is going back in person with several protocols and adjustments in place to best serve our students. I also add in that we have no idea what the future holds and perhaps school will take on an altered variation as the days progress. But what I do know, is that I won't be so "green" if and when we have to change our school day to at-home learning. I've stayed home with three students and survived. And if I have to, I will take what I learned through those very difficult 10 1/2 weeks, and apply it to any future tasks that arise.

Everyone has the ability to embrace fortitude, be it as an employer, an employee, or as a parent being asked to do something that seems impossible. Sometimes a little reflection can open up the mind to all that you have overcome, learned, and collected as insight to move forward with a heightened awareness of your own capacity for success. That seems like a lot of words to simply say, "You got this"! No matter what you are facing today or will face in the future, rest assured you will be prepared for it. And the part where you stumble, cause you will stumble, will be your next learning curve and act of higher education.

Our children are returning to school to continue their education...we simply wake up everyday to continue ours.
Keep smiling, keep sanitizing, and stay safe!

COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS
MORE THAN A BENCH...
IT'S ABOUT BUDDIES
Seeds of Hope is proud to announce the installation of the new Buddy Bench located outside the Matheson Memorial Library in Elkhorn. The Bench was a vision of Jamie Stiling-Stepp, Founder of Seeds of Hope. Stilling-Stepp recalls a participant who had a hard time pronouncing the name of a fellow participant because they grew up in a different culture than the other participant. Seeds of Hope worked with the two individuals by focusing on their similarities rather than their differences.
