Dawn (Haas) KnightLawrence North Class of 1989 , released a book on July 1st titled, Race and Football in America: The Life and Legacy of George Taliaferro. Taliaferro was an NFL trailblazer as the first black man drafted by an NFL team and the first black quarterback. The book weaves Taliaferro's story with other athletes who used football as a vehicle for social justice. Dawn's hope is that it will spark honest discourse about race in America. Knight met Taliaferro when she took his social work class at Indiana University and knew his story had to be told. Dawn currently works as an English teacher at Westfield High School.

Sean O'Connor , Lawrence North Class of 1997 , recently presented a session called "Borrowing Best Practices from Basketball Practice" at the Southern Regional Education Board 's Making Schools Work Conference in Baltimore, MD. The session focused on the symmetry between on-court and in-classroom feedback for athletes, students, coaches, and teachers. Currently Sean is a literacy instructional specialist for Gwinnett County Public Schools, northeast of Atlanta. We love seeing our LT alumni impacting students and fellow educators throughout the country and beyond. Have a great year!

Gina (Tumbarello) Vorhees, Lawrence Central Class of 1999, Director of International Policy and Trade for the American Feed Industry Association, has been reappointed to serve on the U.S. Foreign Agricultural Service's Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade in Grains, Feed, Oilseeds, and Planting Seeds. Read more. Congratulations Gina! Your LT family is so proud of your success.

Kendra Randle, Lawrence Central Class of 2007, received the Deb Williams Scholarship when she was a senior at LC. LTSF holds the endowment for the Deb Williams Scholarship which was named after a beloved LC teacher. This scholarship is awarded annually to a senior who is planning to major in education. Now Kendra is a teacher at Winding Ridge. We love when our programs go full circle. Glad to have you in LT, Kendra!
