A Message from Head of School, Dan Quesnel

Dear Oakwood Community,

I hope that this Back-to-School Bulletin finds you doing well and enjoying your summer. I was worried that campus would be too quiet this week with Horizons ending and Camp Oakwood winding down, but it has actually been quite lively with most fall sports underway, several camps in session, teachers stopping by to say "hello" or work on their rooms, and students and parents visiting as they return from their summer adventures.  Maintenance has campus looking really sharp, and OASES is in full bloom, so if you are on campus, take the time to have a look for yourself.

The arrival of August also serves as a reminder that the new school year is just a few weeks away. With that in mind, catch up with my letter from July regarding the rollout of our new fully integrated educational platform FACTS. Please be on the lookout in the coming days for an email from me introducing our exceptional new faculty and staff joining our team as well as updated 2019-20 staffing plans. Finally please read the items below in this bulletin, as there is a wealth of information in it that you will find helpful as we begin Oakwood's 24th school year.

Go Eagles!
Dan Quesnel

New Parent Orientation
Sunday, August 18

Welcome to The Oakwood School! This year, Oakwood is inviting new families to the  New Family Orientation on Sunday, August 18 beginning at 4pm in Dr. Linda Uveges' office (located across from the Front Office) in Founders' Hall. Here, we will familiarize you with all things Oakwood to help make your transition to the school an easy one. The Division Coordinators and other staff members will be there to discuss Extended Day, car line, how to order lunch, how to look up your student's grades, show you to your student's classrooms, etc., and you will have the opportunity to ask any and all questions you may have. No question is too small or too large to ask as someone is always available to help you. Extended Day will be available during orientation free of charge for children in grades Pre-K to 7.

Senior Parking Lot Palooza
Sunday, August 18

It's an Oakwood tradition! Seniors can personally design and paint their own parking spot in the student lot between  August 18-20. A lottery will be held on Sunday, August 18 to pick your spot. Please meet Mrs. Jennifer Smith in the US Speight Student Commons at 5pm August 19 to get started. AP Classes & Student Registration
New Process

This year, the College Board is starting a new process for AP classes and student registration for AP exams to provide additional materials for students and teachers to prepare for AP exam testing in May 2020. College Board is requiring all students to register with their class for year long and Fall Semester AP classes on the first day of school. In order for this process to move smoothly for teachers and students, all students need to have an account already created with College Board and remember their login information and password.  Please click here for more information and contact Testing Coordinator Amanda Strahin with questions.
