Here we go, Burley School!

August is back-to-school time and with the early start to the school year (school starts August 22nd this year, don’t forget!) it’s time to start getting organized. Mark your calendars for end-of-summer events and happenings at Burley! All families should save the date for Early Bird Day is Friday, August 19th - more details below. 

I can't wait to see all of our students back 8:15 on August 22nd - and welcome the newest members of our Burley Community!

Classroom and Teacher Assignments

CPS Parent Portal is going live sometime around August 12 and parents will be able to log into parent portal student accounts to see their child/ren's teacher assignments. Teachers will also be sending out welcome letters around the same time, so have your Burley student keep an eye out for the mail for a warm welcome from their teacher! 

To note:

-The process of teacher assignments going live is not instantaneous - if you don't see your child's teacher assignment right away or at the same time as others be patient - it will pop up!

-Make sure you know your parent/guardian user name and login information for the parent portal. You can reset your login information for access by going to the parent portal home screen. 

-Check the parent portal to confirm your mailing address is accurate and up to date so your teacher welcome letter makes it to your child/ren!

Kindergarten Popsicle Meet and Greet: Friday August 12th

Incoming Kindergarteners and their families are welcome to join us on the Burley school playground for popsicle fun and mingling with other Kindergarten families on

August 12 at 6pm.

School-wide Back to School Movie Night: Friday, August 12th

Bring your blanket, snacks, friends and family and enjoy watching a kid friendly movie under the stars in the back of Burley School August 12th. The movie (Despicable Me 3!) begins at dusk (a little before 8pm) weather permitting.

Note: As always, alcohol is not permitted on school grounds, no chairs are permitted on the turf and, no wheels on the track or turf please. Please keep furry friends at home.

Early Bird Day at Burley School: Friday, August 19th

8:30am-6:00pm

(8:30am-9:30am - classroom visit/ teacher meet and greet opportunity)

Drop off your supplies (label your child's supply bag with their first and last name) and take care of forms and fees anytime before 6 - bring your students early to see their classroom and meet their teacher (teachers will be in their classrooms from 8:30am to 9:30am to greet students). School supplies lists are available here. 

There will also be new Burley Gear for sale from 8:30am-10am in all sizes to help you kick off the year in new school spirit.

Can't make early bird day? No problem. We will see your child on the first day of school and will be able to complete forms and fees the first week of school.

1st DAY OF SCHOOL: Monday, August 22nd

The first day of school is Monday, August 22nd from 8:15am-3:15pm and we can’t wait to greet each and every student! 

Kona-Ice Cream Social: Thursday, August 25th

Students and their families are invited to celebrate the start of the new school year at the Burley Kona-Ice Cream Social on Thursday, August 25th 6:00-7:00pm on the playground. Come and enjoy a free Kona Italian Ice, meet some new families, and catch up with friends while the kids play on the playground and enjoy the early evening together. 

Missed Burley Gear at Early Bird Day? There will also be new Burley Gear for sale at the Ice Cream Social while supplies last! 

2022-23 YMCA Before and After School Care

• Before school program from 7:15am – 8:15am at Burley (based on min. enrollment of 10 students)
• After school program off site at Jahn School
• YMCA personnel will pick up children from Burley and walk with them to the off site location at Jahn.

2022-23 CPS Calendar

Please click here for the CPS school calendar for this upcoming year. Utilize this calendar to plan for vacations, appointments, classes and time outside of school on days off of school. This supports our educators to maximize learning for all students in our classrooms. This years we experienced a significant decline in our school attendance percentage, vacations and trips during the school year (especially school days leading up to holiday breaks) in addition to significantly increased late arrivals/early dismissals. We prioritize your child’s education each and every day, and every minute matters. Thank you for arranging appointments and vacations on days off to make this happen!

Is your child's COVID vaccine & booster record registered with Burley?

If it hasn't already been submitted previously, please send Ms. Plocher ([email protected]) a picture of your child's vaccine card with the dosage dates once fully vaccinated (after the 2nd dose) AND for those students that have received their booster. If you already sent in this information last year no need to resend, but if your child has recently registered at Burley or was not fully vaccinated last year but is now, please send in this information asap to register your child as fully vaccinated. 

Students that are fully vaccinated do NOT need to quarantine unless exhibiting symptoms if they are a COVID close contact, but if they are not fully vaccinated they will either need to participate in the test to stay program each time they are a close contact from a classroom positive case or quarantine for 5 days. Please consider getting your child fully vaccinated and send in the updated vaccine cards!
