A Note from President and Founder

Dear Friends,
We find ourselves saying goodbye to the dog days of summer. I hope you filled them with family and friends, fun, hiking, swimming, or simply resting in your favorite space and reading "that book" waiting to be devoured.
During July and August, the Joseph P Cory Foundation took the opportunity to create several events for the community, such as “Self-Care” days and cooking classes. With the inclusion of local fruits and vegetables, we learned how to take care of our bodies with what was available to us, such as blueberries and grapes! Attendees learned how to make scrumptious face masks, or nourishing seaweed, aloe, and honey body wraps. It was an enjoyable learning experience, with many benefits for our skin, as well as creating loving kinship. Whatever you did, I hope you too have experienced something new and beneficial for your well being.
With such great response, we will keep moving forward with further programming, so peek inside this newsletter to see our new “Your Health IS Your Wealth” lecture series beginning September 21st.
Finally, as the school year is underway, new gardens, guests, and education will be sprouting up this year. As always, we invite all volunteers, supporters, and sponsors to join in and share your time, talent, and treasure. It is always our highest goal to supersede our greatest successes and help our students and community shine.
Together, I invite us to embark on a new journey in our Gardens of Hope, and the new school year 2023/24! Thank you for everything past and future!
From my heart to yours,
Nada

As many of you already know, starting a garden here in south Florida begins in October or November, after the summer heat slowly subsides. Still, it requires a lot of attention, starting with a good clean up, replenishing the soil, and taking a good look around to see what is in need of repair.
Here are a few planning tips for a successful Fall to Spring organic herb garden. Baby steps... just undertake a couple of things at a time and enjoy the process. Also, be realistic, if you know what grows in your gardening zone, you can best map out all the lovely items you can plant this year.
We have provided a "seed packet" and other tips, so you can get a better idea of what planting is all about. A great lesson in patience to be shared with young ones!

DO YOU SPEAK "SEED PACKET"?
|
|
What is missing?
Did you happen to notice the name of the seed company is missing off this package? This is an opportunity for community sponsors to "have your business name and logo" on our handouts in schools. (South, Mid, or North County) Email and let us know how many students you would like to educate. For each $1, a student will receive seeds and an 8.5 x 11 color printout. Minimum donation (print run) is $50 please.

Check your social media channels. There are lots of people who like to swap seeds. Also social activities surrounding seed exchanging is popular, you never know what relationship may "grow" during one of these opportunities!

There are many Apps you can use on your phone to help with identifying plants, plant "issues", and other cool stuff. Here is a recommendation from our own Nada.
