Hello {First Name},

As we welcome you back for a new school year, we recognize that the well-being of your family remains top of mind. While we’re planning for a year of increased normalcy for our learning community, we recognize that COVID-19 is still with us and will continue to impact how we learn and congregate.

We will have layers of virus prevention strategies in place to help keep everyone safe, including:

  • at-home COVID tests available in school clinics (coming soon);
  • masks and hand sanitizer for anyone who requests them;
  • mobile air-cleaning units for large gathering areas like libraries and cafeterias (coming soon);
  • new air-cleaning filters on each school bus; and
  • a vigilant custodial staff that will continue to sanitize and disinfect our buildings.

That said, the most important element in preventing the spread of any virus is you. Please keep your children at home for the recommended time if they are sick.

SCS will follow the latest guidance from the Virginia Department of Health to respond to COVID-19 this school year. Should community transmission of the virus increase, we have the ability to boost our health mitigation efforts to manage the spread in our schools.

Thank you for your support. We are excited to welcome you back to school on Tuesday, Aug. 9, for the 2022-23 school year!

Cell Phone Restrictions, New Vaping Consequences this Year

Two office folders with text new rules

To help maintain a healthy and safe learning environment in our schools, we’ve made some updates to our Student Handbook & Code of Conduct. The most significant include:

  • restrictions on student use of cell phones/electronic devices;
  • tougher consequences for vaping; and
  • the reinstatement of Poor School Standing for students who violate the SCS Student Code of Conduct (loss of privileges to participate in extracurricular activities, including athletics).

Read more about the updates.

We recognize that policies alone won’t create a positive school environment. Building strong and trusting relationships with students and families are essential and will always be at the center of our interactions. Thank you for working with us to make our schools safe and welcoming for all!
