Back to School Prayer

Lord, you delight in creating beauty, in calling forth new and good things, in forming unexpected relationships of love, in teaching us your will and your ways.

As we look to a new school year, we thank you for educators and administrators, bus drivers and cafeteria workers, custodians and coaches, counselors and school board members. We recognize that it takes a multitude of gifts, a myriad of resources and a whole lot of energy and compassion to teach our children well. We ask your blessing upon all of those called to these positions. Grant them stamina and imagination, joy and patience.

Volunteers Needed for Crescent City Café

YAF (Young Adults & Families) are looking for volunteers age 16 and older to help serve breakfast to unhoused individuals at Crescent City Café on Saturday, August 17 from 7:30-10:30 a.m. The Café is one of our community ministry partners and is located at Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church, 3900 St. Charles Avenue. They offer healthy and delicious hot meals in a restaurant-style atmosphere. Please email Tyler Wheeler with any questions or to sign up!

Meet Our Partners in Ghana

The Global Ministry Committee invites everyone to join them on Sunday, August 18 at 9:30 a.m. where we will meet with our Ghana Missionary Partners via Zoom in the Land Building Riverside Room. We will be talking with leaders from the Gethsemane Church and the Learning Center in Senchi Ferry, Ghana. Our partnership with the Gethsemane Church has helped to support their efforts in building a new sanctuary, Sunday school rooms, and offices for a quickly growing community. Our donations of books, laptops, and funds have helped to support the ongoing education of children and young people through the Ghana Scholarship Fund and the Senchi Ferry Learning Center.

Playground Playdate

The Spiritual Formation Committee is hosting a Playground Playdate on Sunday, August 18 from 4-6 p.m. at Alma Peters Playground, 346 Eleanore Street! Families with children of all ages are invited to join in the fun. BYOB and snacks! Please email Pastor Sarah with any questions or to RSVP.

Meet Chef Matt and Join His Kitchen Crew!

Introducing our new Wednesday Night Out Chef, Matt McCann!

Hey I'm Matt McCann and I'm excited to be stepping into the big shoes of Bonnie & Jim as head of WNO. I grew up active in the Catholic Church in Houston, TX. I joined the choir here in 2009 and after about a year or so joined SCAPC formally. I've been involved in a couple different church ministries and the choir since I joined, and I cooked for Camp Rhino this summer. I've been interested in the culinary world from a young age and have over five years experience baking and cooking at Gambino's and Gracious Bakery. I've also been a dishwasher and prep cook/ packer. It's gonna be a challenge to take on WNO but I'm confident that with the support and prayers of the congregation and with all of my knowledge and skill, we can pull it off.

Chef Matt

We are recruiting volunteers to make up a new crew for WNO. It does not require any kitchen experience. We are looking for help mostly on Wednesday afternoons, but since we are starting anew, there's a lot of opportunity to adjust the WNO schedule to fit the needs of the congregation. We are considering several different ways for people to be involved, so if you have any interest in helping out with WNO, please email mcmccann55@gmail.com and we will figure out how to fit you into the plans for the fall.

Wednesday Night Out Kicks off with College Spirit Night on September 11!

Calling Sunday School Volunteers!

Do you love children and want to see them grow in their faith? Join one of our Sunday School Volunteer teams! No experience is needed. We have three age groups from 3-year-olds through 3rd grade. This is a minimum time commitment and all supplies will be gathered for you. Volunteer 3–5 times per semester. If you are interested or want to learn more, contact Michele Murphy at michele@scapc.org.

Sympathy

Our sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Jack Hinrichs who died on Sunday, July 28. A memorial service will be held at the church on Tuesday, August 13 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 9:30 a.m. in the Bloomfield Room.
