Back to School Reminder
Did you know, shots aren’t just for kids! Teens need to get their shots, too.

We all need shots (vaccines) to help protect us from serious diseases. This protection is called immunization. To help keep our community safe, myHealth For Teens & Young Adults is proudly participating in  National Immunization Awareness Month.

Not only newborns and infants, but also your preteens and teens will need immunizations from time to time to protect your friends and family. In general, there are four vaccines suggested for teens to help save them from serious illnesses. One of them is the most popular flu vaccine, which should be administered every year. The other vaccines that are recommended for teens during their eleventh or twelfth year include:
  • Meningococcal conjugate vaccine to protect against meningitis and bloodstream infections (septicemia).
  • HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine to protect against cancers caused by HPV.
  • Tdap vaccine to protect against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough (pertussis).

As most preteens get their shots before school starts, it could be difficult to get an appointment to meet your child’s doctor. Therefore, plan it well before and get an appointment at the earliest to avoid missing the shots. Always be sure to check with your doctor in order to make sure that your preteen is current with the vaccines. Remember, they may have to catch up with vaccines that they have missed while they were young.

Schedule your appointment today at myHealth to make sure your vaccines are up to date!
Minnesota Healthy Youth Development- Prevention Research Center (PRC) released their 2019 Minnesota Adolescent Health Report. This report highlights sexual health trends among Minnesota teens. Teen pregnancy and birth rates are at historic lows. However, sexually transmitted infections are at an all-time high. Learn more about these trends and how we can work together to help young people make safe and healthy decisions about sex, sexuality, and relationships.

COUNSELING
Meet our new therapist Jill!
Jill Whitney is a skilled therapist with the unique ability to connect with individuals from a place of authenticity and respect. She believes that supportive positive connections are transformative and can increase one’s ability to reach their goals. Jill understands that coming to counseling is not easy, and supports her clients to feel at ease by incorporating humor and laughter in sessions.

Jill lives in Minneapolis with her husband, son, dog and two cats (yes, a zoo!) and in her spare time, she enjoys exploring all the beautiful parks Minnesota has to offer, reading, good podcasts, and trying to keep her many houseplants alive.

Need a sports physical?
I t’s that time of year again!
Sports physicals are a great way to make sure an athlete can safely participate in their activities. Most activities require a physical, but even if it's not required, it's a great way to stay on top of your young person's health. For patients who are uninsured they are a flat fee of $35.

Call the clinic today to set up an appointment.
Be a myHealth Champion
Every act of generosity counts, no gift is too small, and each means even more when we give together.
A myHealth Champion is someone who makes a monthly commitment to support the teens and young adults in the communities that myHealth serves. We need your help to ensure that myHealth is around for many years to come.

Will you join us as a myHealth Champion and donate $27/month?
Or $10/month?

Your donation of $27/month covers the cost of an annual check-up for a young person in our community.
Community Presentations
myHealth's education team provides education to young people, parents, community groups, and professionals. We offer many different workshops and presentations that can be tailored to the needs of your group.
