In early June, my wife Deb and I had the great pleasure of going on our annual Promo Tour to Jackson, Cadillac, Clare, and Port Huron. On Monday morning of that week, we left Cadillac early to go out to breakfast along Lake Cadillac before heading to Clare. After we were seated at the restaurant, we noticed a man with a cowboy hat come in and sit across from us. He asked me if he was in Cadillac and if I knew where the Tractor Supply store was in town because he needed to buy a battery for his car. He mentioned he needed a 6-volt battery. I told him where it was and asked what kind of car he had. He said it was a 1931 Ford Model A. I said “Cool” and asked where he lived. He said he lived in Montana, and he was on his way to New Jersey to see his mother who is 89 years old. He had my undivided attention. He has a 388-acre cattle ranch and participated in professional rodeos until 2006.
After breakfast, I asked him when he was heading back to Montana, and he said he was coming back through Canada and Port Huron about June 21, so we exchanged phone numbers and promised to stay in touch. When he arrived in Port Huron, he called me about meeting on his way home. We met in Clare at Cops and Doughnuts for coffee and a donut.
He had a bumper sticker on his car that said: “To hell with whales, save the cowboy” You never know who are going to meet on the Promo Tour, so plan on going next year.
This past Wednesday, July 17th, we were blessed with great weather and a wonderful Road Rally that ventured off to Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners. 73 cars, and over 125 people lined up at our partner's all-new collision center at Shea Automotive. Our Road Rally Sponsors are Shea Chevrolet and PFCU Credit Union, and they were excited about this new Rally experience. Coffee Beanery was on hand, brewing Bricks Blend Coffee for all the participants, and they were able to enjoy complimentary Timbits from Tim Hortons. The participants were able to take tours of the new Collision Center, visit the vendors, and purchase all new Back to the Bricks® swag. A Special thank you to all the volunteers who worked to make this fun rally go off without a hitch! The museum was a HUGE hit, with participants being able to park inside the museum on the grounds. So much fun for all. September's Road Rally will fall on Saturday, September 14th, so save the date.
We’ve got a JAM-PACKED August as you will see below. From Tune-Up Week to Main Event Week, there’s something for everyone. Did you know that on Saturday during the Main Event we do an opening ceremony with a tribute to all veterans? It’s a site to be seen for sure. The program will include an Invocation and an inspiring performance of our National Anthem by a special guest. Over 2,000 handheld American Flags will be passed out to wave high to the special “flyovers” by 4 amazing military aircraft that will make their way along Saginaw Street high above. Veterans from all around are invited. This year, thanks to our partner Huntington Bank, we will have 400 collector Veterans shirts to be handed out near the statue plaza following the presentation. Click here to check out our website for more details on this special event.
Make sure you all buckle up, we are about to take off, so much to come in August!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
