What's new with our Executive Director
|
|
Hey everyone!
March has brought us some amazingly nice weather, makes me really want to get the truck out and go for a drive with Peyton. I know, I know, it's not time yet.
But I WILL have the truck out at the first event of the year!!! I can't wait to see everyone at the Dust 'em Off car show on May 23rd. We are excited for this all new event, and the Chairman Al Jones and his committee have done a lot of work to make this event be a success.
Peyton and I are super excited for the upcoming Promo Tour. We are both going and can't wait to see everyone. This will be our first time on the tour, so if you have any suggestions or tips please send them my way!
We are FULL BLAST on planning the Summer Events, and talking to all the sponsors and partners they are pleased to be apart of it. Of course we welcome anyone interested in being a partner/sponsor so if you know anyone or any business send them my way. 2021 is going to be bigger and better than ever!
Well, that's all for now. Have a GREAT day, week and Month everyone!

Al’s Garage
Vol. #2, Issue #3
Last December as I was perusing through the December issue of ‘Hemming Motor News’, I began to take notice that there appeared to be less cars for sale in many of the individual marques. Out of sheer curiosity, I counted the number of ‘Model A Fords’ that were for sale and for comparison, the number of Ferrari’s for sale. I suspect you already have guessed where this is going.
I was surprised to see that there were more Ferrari’s for sale then Model A’s! Furthermore, I looked at a couple of more listings like Mercedes. The same thing, more Mercedes for sale then Cadillac’s and Lincolns. When I received my February issue of ‘Hemmings Motor News’, I counted the number of Ford Mustangs that were listed for sale and there were forty-five cars for sale: Ferrari’s, fifty-five for sale.
The bigger question is why are there more Ferrari’s for sale then Model A Fords and Mustangs? Keep in mind Ferraris were introduced to the public in 1947 and Ford most likely built more Model A’s or Mustangs in one year the Ferrari has built in the last seventy-four years. I suspect the cost of ownership comes into play for Ferrari’s as they are much more expensive to maintain then Model A’s or Mustangs. Obviously, there is a cost of ownership for owning any collectable car, i.e., insurance, upkeep, general maintenance, etc., which is almost unavoidable. But I suspect anyone could make a case for most anything that is collectable.
Cost of ownership of a collector should always be consider if you are thinking about a particular car. Age, parts availability, insurance, etc., and do not forget drivability. Drivability? Did I hear you correctly? Yes, you did. Is the car so pristine that it is trailered to and from car events and never seen a drop of rain? Over the past fifty years of enjoyment of the ‘car hobby’, I have seen literally thousands of trailer queens as I am sure each of you have too. This is not intended to ‘knock’ those who have a ‘trailer queens.’ I have owned a couple of them myself and I must admit, I have enjoyed the cars that can be driven much more. So, drive those Model A’s and Mustang or any other collector cars you might own and leave the Ferrari in the garage. And finally, if I ever hit the big lottery, I might, just might buy a Ferrari but that is highly unlikely as I do not buy lottery tickets. Oh well, one can still dream.
Keep on rollin’
