The latest from the Chairman of the Board
Hello there car fans,

I am sure looking forward to getting back on the road and meeting up with all our car cruising friends, reconnecting with old acquaintances and making new friends. This time of year, the car cruise scene is heating up and it is exciting to see the ‘new’ rides and improvements to the ‘older’ rides. And what better way to kick off the 2021 car show and cruise scene is to attend a brand-new Back to the Bricks® event, Dust 'em Off Car Cruise™ which is being held on May 23, 2021 at the Dort Financial Center.

Al Jones, the Chairman for this first ever event says, "The event is ‘sold out’ with over eight-hundred cars registered. Our ‘Dust ’em Off Car Cruise™ is brought to you buy Dort Financial Credit Union and Laura Nestor Marketing Director has a smile that goes from ‘ear to ear’ and could not be more pleased."

Once the Dust ’em Off Car Cruise™ wraps up, we are off and running with the 11th Annual Back to the Bricks® Promo Tour which has been titled the ‘Visionary Tour’. We are thrilled that this year has the highest number ever of participants scheduled to take the tour. Chairperson Pete Cimbala and Co-Chair Rhonda Rau and the entire ‘Promo Tour’ committee are sending out emails with instructions to where and when you can pick up your registration packets. Like the Dust ’em Off Car Cruise™ watch for more info on ABC12 for up-to-date coverage of the ‘Promo Tour’.

I am sure it is obvious that I am excited about all of the Back to the Bricks® events that have been scheduled for 2021. We will be hosting 17 plus events you can attend this year, and how appropriate as this is the 17th year anniversary for the Back to the Bricks®.

One final thing, and we know you will be excited. Save the date, July 24, 2021 for our next ‘Road Rally’ with a 100% entirely new route. Watch for announcement in your email inbox, all newsletter subscribers will have the first opportunity in a special email to register for the Road Rally before it goes live to everyone else.

As always, stay safe, and do your part. We want to all get out and have some fun this Summer!

What's new with our Executive Director
Hey everyone!

I am so excited for what's to come. WOWZA the planning and the meetings, the emails, phone calls, texting, updates to our website and social media, it's been a CRAZY few weeks. But you know what? I wouldn't change it for anything!

This is what I signed up for. To help put on the biggest most amazing events in Genesee County. This Back to the Bricks® organization is FULL of amazing Volunteers who give their time to put on these events, and the Board of Directors give hours and hours up to take part in meetings that in turn, help make the heavy decisions of "Go" or "No Go". There's a lot done behind the scenes and I am thankful for each person who helps to make it all possible.

We are in the final stages of plans for the upcoming Dust 'em Off event, and I can't wait for Sunday. I encourage everyone to come out and see the cars, music, the vendors, the food trucks and see if there's anything you want to take home from the Swap Meet. Tons of fun for all. Park over at the Ashley Furniture (The old Target) and walk behind Ashley Furniture through the new gate we put in. Come see everyone and enjoy the beautiful day.

Then back to planning next week and finalize everything for the upcoming Promo Tour. As I mentioned before this is my first Promo Tour, and my daughter Peyton and I are very excited. My 81' Ford Truck is in the shop, I noticed a slight header leak, and felt it was better to be safe than sorry. So fingers crossed it gets fixed in time.

Tons going on this year, so make sure to check out our website often, and follow us on Facebook.

Well, that's all for now. Have a GREAT day, stop by and see me on Sunday and enjoy the nice weather everyone!

First things first. It is great to seeing collector cars out on the road when the weather permits us to do so. Getting our cars out from a long period of motionless storage is a real boost for our weary souls. And the best thing is, it is just the start of Michigan’s collector car shows and cruises season.

A quick update on my whoa of using my buffing wheel. Just to remind all I was buffing some of the stainless-steel trim for my son’s ’47 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe, specifically the rear taillight trim ring. Keep in mind this was last fall. As a practice, I always move the buffing wheel out onto the concrete pad in front of the overhead door when I am buffing ‘whatever’. The wheel caught the trim ring, and it went flying out of my hands never to be found again! So, I thought.

My wife and I looked all over the immediate area where the buffing wheel was located but to no avail. The other day I was mowing the lawn and as usual I was mowing behind some twenty-five-foot-tall scotch pines and I looked down at the base of the trunk of one of the trees and there laid the trim ring! Nice and shiny and no damage. I can only guess but when the trim ring exited my hands the buffing wheel literally threw the trim ring into the upper branches on one of the pine trees and there it spent the entire winter until a strong wind helped propel the ring back to the ground. It is great that this mystery is now come full circle and the trim ring is back into the possession of my son. Now if I can only find the hearing aid that I lost out in the yard a few weeks ago.

Moving on, our car calendar is filling up fast for the summer. Leading off is the ‘1ST Annual Dust’em Off Car Show’ which is be held on May 23rd, 2021 at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center in Flint, Michigan. Next comes the ‘Back to the Bricks’ annual ‘Visionary Promo Tour’ in early June. Then my wife and I are hosting the Auburn Cord Duesenberg ‘Can-Am’ regional meet in July right here in the Flint area. August brings on two-weeks of ‘Back to the Bricks’ events. September ushers in the annual ‘Auburn Cord Duesenberg’ reunion in Auburn, followed by the Frankenmuth ‘Auto Fest’, a late September Michigan tour with some of our collector car friends and finally, our annual trek to ‘Hershey’. This busy schedule does not include the cruise scene which helps fill in the blanks.

Like all of you, this covid thing is starting to wear thin and we are collectively ready to get out and enjoy our cars, the hobby and most of all, the camaraderie and the friendship of fellow car enthusiasts.

Keep on rollin’
