Up & Out, the philanthropistic club, at Badger High School, is looking for donations for their annual Presents for Parents and is asking for your help.
Presents for Parents is a project started by Up & Out in which students 'shop' for a gift for their mom or dad, wrap it up, and bring it home right before winter break. All gifts are small items, free, and allow students to give as well as receive this holiday season. Last year, donations included regifted items, crafted jewelry, candles, key chains, cooking tools, knickknacks, or other craft items the club could use to make presents.
All donations can be delivered to the main office, labeled Up & Out, or dropped off in room 122. Donations should be delivered by December 15th.

You must be present to win! - School Attendance is a KEY.
According to the US Census Bureau, high school graduates earn $10,000.00 more per year than non-graduates. The gap continues to widen for those who pursue a degree after achieving their high school diploma. What does this mean for you and your student? Academic achievement and graduation are tied directly to instruction. And a student cannot participate in that instruction if he/she is not present.
Under Wisconsin State Statute students are not allowed to miss more than 10 days per year or 5 days per semester without the absence being exempted. Exempted absences are those that result in some type of medical, legal, or religious activities. All must have written notes from the appropriate official. In our Student Handbook on pages 20-22 the three types of absences are explained in more detail. Students absent without an acceptable excuse for part of or all of 5 days on which school is held during a semester will be considered a habitual truant.
Tardiness to school and class counts toward this 10 days (80 hours) as well. Please help us teach this important workplace skill and hold your student accountable for choosing to be late to school or tardy to class.
What can you do to help? Stress with your student the importance of attendance to success in school and beyond, whenever possible schedule appointments outside the school day, and schedule vacations with limited time out of school. We thank you for your continued support.
As we head into late fall, there is much to celebrate. Our fall athletic teams had wonderful seasons (Football is still playing as I write this) with many teams and individuals heading to the state level in athletic competitions. This month I hope to see you at our theater production of Beauty and the Beast and gearing up for a season of concerts and winter sports. This is also a good time of the year to discuss the navigation of winter driving with our teens.

Badger Library is committed to bringing unique learning opportunities to our students and we are pleased to introduce our partnership with the Wisconsin Schools Digital Library Consortium to bring our students a free reading service providing digital books, audiobooks, eMagazines, and eComics through Overdrive’s Sora app. The collection of titles in Sora is an extension of Badger Library’s physical library, only it’s in an app with 24/7 access. It’s convenient for students to check out titles at home, on the weekends or during school breaks with no worry about misplacing a book – these digital titles automatically return at the end of the lending period! Sora can help all Badgers read more and improve comprehension. Struggling or reluctant readers, second language learners, and gifted readers can all benefit from this service to enrich vocabulary and improve comprehension and pronunciation. Visit the Badger Library website for instructions on downloading SORA and logging in. | |
