PRINCIPAL TRONSEN'S TOPICS
November is a month for giving "Thanks"
I want to thank all students, families, and staff for a great start to the school year. Things are off and running and we are heading in the right direction. I am thankful for the increased attendance at our first parent/teacher conferences this year. I am also thankful for those of you who were able to take advantage of our special parenting session presented by Credence Therapy Associates, as well as our financial aid presentation (FAFSA). Please look for more of these types of sessions coming up in the near future.
I am thankful for our students and staff taking an interest in becoming a "Value Up" school. This is a big commitment that, if we move along properly, will yield huge results for our school and student body. The big deal with Value Up is that students create the culture and staff support it. At the end of my article you will see our Value Up statement for our school. As you come and go from Badger you will start to see more of this presence at events and in our halls. We are excited for this new venture and look forward to the results.
The end of the first quarter has come and the start of quarter two has begun. Please encourage your students to continue to excel in their course work or encourage them to try to improve. Our students should be thankful that we have a host of after school academic labs in almost all curricular areas of our school. If your student needs a little extra assistance, this is a great tool for them. It is always a good idea to encourage students to advocate for themselves and make strides to communicate to their teachers either in person or via email.
As we head into the Thanksgiving Holiday I wish all of you the best and hope you enjoy your time with family!

Badger High School Performing Arts presents
"Once Upon a Mattress"
The show runs

Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12 at 7:00PM, with a matinee on Saturday at
1:30PM.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children/senior citizens. Badger students receive 1 free ticket with their ID. Tickets may be purchased online or in the Badger High School main office.

Synopsis:
Due to an unhappy curse, King Sextimus is unable to speak. Meanwhile, his terror-of-a-wife, Queen Aggravain, has taken over control of the kingdom. Most importantly, in an attempt to keep Prince Dauntless single, she has decreed that only the princess that can pass her test may marry her son. Further, no one else in the kingdom may marry until Prince Dauntless does. Lady Larken and Sir Harry are extremely disturbed by this fact since Lady Larken is now pregnant with Sir Harry's baby. Luckily, Sir Harry is able to find an amazing princess, Winnifred the Woebegone. She instantly catches the attention of Prince Dauntless, and in the end, is able to pass the Queen's supposedly impassable sensitivity test. When the Queen still tries to prevent the Prince Dauntless from marrying, he tells her to 'shut up' which ends up breaking the curse on the king. Now able to speak, King Sextimus regains his rightful position as leader of the kingdom, and all is well.

FFA Recognized at National Convention
The B
adger FFA attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indian
a on October 19-22, 2016.
The Chapter was recognized as a Two-Star National Chapter Award winner, which
recognizes outstanding FFA chapters from throughout the country that succ
essfully complete an annual set of required activities that encourage members to grow as individu
als, work as a team, and serve others in their community. This is the sixth year in a row that the Badger FFA Chapter has been recognized at the national level for its impacts in the local community.
INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
- Badger FFA member Braden Kundert ranked 4th place individual in the nation in the Prepared Public Speaking Career Development Event (CDE). This category of competition recognizes outstanding FFA members for their ability to prepare and present a factual speech on a specific agricultural issue in a well thought-out and logical manner in competitive setting. Members prepare and deliver an eight to ten-minute speech from memory and respond to five minutes of question. The event is just one way FFA members can develop their ability to communicate in a powerful, organized and profession manner. Braden was recognized on the national stage with a plaque and cash award.
- The Badger FFA Veterinary Science CDE team also competed and was recognized at the national level. The Badger team won the state level in April to advance to the national level to represent Wisconsin. The National FFA Veterinary Science CDE tests the participants' abilities to apply veterinary science knowledge and skill in practical settings as well as identify breeds, parasites and equipment. Participants also complete a written exam and respond to scenario questions about current topics in the veterinary industry.
- The Veterinary Science team members placed individually as follows: Alyssa Cowan, Gold; Kendra Hoerth, Silver; Amanda Meier, Bronze; Casey Burmeister, Bronze. The Veterinary Science team received a Silver ranking overall.

Badger Spanish Students Help Area Adults Learn English
Badger High School students who take Señora Nicias' Spanish classes are putting their lan
guage skills to good use to help area adults learn and practice English.

FCCLA Wisconsin Leadership Academy
The Wisconsin Leadership Academy offered opportunities for students and advisors to learn from a featured keynote speaker, Craig Hillier. Craig opened the WLA with challenging the audience to "stretch" themselves to a new level. There are three aspects to work on: resilience, respect, and responsibility. The students and advisors then attended various breakout sessions coordinated by the Wisconsin FCCLA state officers. FCCLA Regional Representatives met with other representatives to prepare for competitive events hosted during Wisconsin FCCLA Regional and State Leadership Conferences. The following students attended the FCCLA WLA in Madison: Cloe Acup, Sarah Amborn, Kelli Conder, David Johnson, Daysi McKay, Melanie Schintgen, and Sarah Silciliano. Congratulations to Sarah Siciliano who was named an FCCLA Regional Representative.

Senior Yearbook Portrait Photographs
Senior yearbook portrait photographs were due on October 28, 2016. If you did not submit your own portrait photograph, your school ID will be used. If you did not submit a picture and did not have your school ID picture taken, your picture will not be in the yearbook. |

Senior Baby Photos for the Class of 2017
Put your student's baby picture in the back of the yearbook with a congratulatory statement. Creating a baby photo ad is optional, but it is a great way to celebrate your senior student's accomplishments. By submitting photographs to the Badger High School yearbook staff you are acknowledging that you are following copyright laws and have the right to use and print the images that you are submitting.
The cost is $30 (1/8 page) and $60 (1/4 page).

College Representatives
There are many college representatives visiting Badger this Fall. Listen to announcements or check the counseling webpage to see what schools will be here and when so you don't miss your chance to meet with them and get your questions answered! Remember to get a pass from Mrs. Ott before coming.
Scholarship Gala
The Badger High School Scholarship Gala will be held on November 18th at the Rivera Ballroom. Tickets are available at the Badger High School main office and online at eventbrite.com (search for Badger Gala). Tickets are $80 per person or $800 per table of 8.
Scholarships
The General Scholarship Form is now available on the Badger scholarship page of the website for seniors interested in applying. This form will need to be turned in to be considered for any scholarship offered through Badger, even if there is a separate application. Please download and type directly into the form before printing. It can be found at this link:
It is due on January 6th, 2017 and can be returned directly to the Counseling Center.
Work Permits
If a work permit is needed, please see Mrs. Ott in the counseling center. You will need $10 cash, your social security card, and a letter from the employer stating that you will be working there. If Mrs. Ott is not available, you can get a work permit from city hall.
