Badger High School NHS Chapter Wins National Award
For its exemplary record of leadership, service, and efforts to improve the school and community, the National Honor Society (NHS) awarded Badger High School the Chapter of Distinction award.
The NHS is supported by its parent organization, the National Principals Association (NPA), which also oversees the National Association of Student Councils.
Badger's NHS chapter has 105 members for the 2026-2027 school year. Each member plans and completes a 20-hour service project, volunteering across the Lake Geneva community in schools, hospitals, churches, childcare centers, animal rescues, retirement communities, and other nonprofit organizations. Last year, members completed nearly 2,300 service hours, all on their own time.
Each year, members also raise money to buy backpacks and supplies for students in the Lake Geneva Schools as the school year begins. This year, they raised $4,000 and packed backpacks for 170 students. Members look forward to broadening their impact and continuing to grow in scholarship, character, leadership, and service this year.
"The NHS Chapter of Distinction Award celebrates chapters that truly embody what the National Honor Society stands for—students who don't just excel academically but actively strengthen their communities," said NPA CEO Ronn Nozoe. "The Badger High School chapter demonstrates how powerful it can be when young leaders channel their talents toward
meaningful service and positive change."
"We are incredibly proud of our NHS students for earning this national recognition," said Badger High School Principal Andrea Kaplan. "Their dedication to scholarship, service, leadership, and character shows up every day, in our hallways and throughout our community. This award reflects the hard work of our students and the guidance of their adviser, Ms. Jenn Baker, and it's a reminder of what's possible when young people commit to making a difference."
The NHS Chapters of Distinction program is a national recognition program created by NHS to honor chapters that demonstrate strong leadership, sound operations, and a deep commitment to the pillars of the Honor Society. This distinction recognizes chapters that meet all Essential Standards and excel in key areas such as student governance and leadership development.

As a reminder, the school bus and bus stop are an extension of our school, and students are expected to follow the same behavior expectations as they would in the classroom. At the beginning of the year, we reviewed these key expectations with all students:
Be RESPECTFUL: Keep hands to yourself and listen to bus drivers and staff members.
Be RESPONSIBLE: Arrive on time to your bus stop, stay seated throughout the ride, clean up after yourself, and maintain a nicotine-, alcohol-, and drug-free environment.
Be APPROPRIATE: Use conversational voice levels and school-appropriate language and topics.
Additionally, students must understand that swearing, screaming, seat hopping, throwing objects, and distracting the driver are strictly prohibited. Students who do not follow the driver's directions or who engage in disruptive behavior will be written up by the driver and will receive school consequences as determined by administration.
Please take a few minutes to review these expectations with your child. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe and respectful transportation environment for all students.

When to Send Your Child to School or Keep Them Home
At Lake Geneva Schools, we know that regular attendance is key to academic success! Being in class daily helps students build strong habits, stay engaged, and gain valuable social skills. However, we also want to maintain a healthy, germ-free learning environment.
Use this guide (https://bit.ly/healthyLGS) to help decide when your child should attend school or stay home to recover. If your child has a fever over 100.4°F, vomiting, or diarrhea in the last 24 hours, it's best for them to rest at home. For minor symptoms like a runny nose, if there’s no fever, they’re ready for class!
When in doubt, contact the school health office, and let's work together to keep everyone healthy and learning!

2026-2027 SCHOOL CALENDAR

Thank you for partnering with Lake Geneva Schools to help every student make the most of each school day. Every day counts! Check out the 2026-2027 School Year Family Calendar: https://bit.ly/4pYIGuO
