All Juniors Will Take The ACT February 20
|
|
On February 20, all juniors in the State of Wisconsin will take the ACT test. This is the assessment used to determine career and college readiness for technical colleges and 2-4 year universities. Whether your student is contemplating attending a university or a technical college, the ACT has importance. All Wisconsin universities use the ACT as part of their admissions process. Students choosing a Technical College path can use the ACT instead of taking a placement test. The ACT test is paid for by the school district and the score may be shared by the student with prospective colleges and technical schools. This is a great opportunity for students to get feedback on where they stand in this process.
On February 21 all juniors will take the WorkKeys test as the second part of the state mandated testing. This test measures student progress in the areas of applied math, reading for information, and locating information. Students who pass all three tests will receive a National Career Readiness Certificate. This certificate is used by many employers, including state and federal government, as part of the employee selection process.
The test measures academic progress in the areas of math, English, reading, science, and writing. To create a quiet and positive testing environment, students will test at school in the math and world language wing. We are excited to provide this opportunity for juniors. Students will be dismissed for the rest of the day after each day of testing is completed. Please help us by ensuring that your student is present on these days. The make-up test dates are March 12 and 13 respectively.

Course Selection Time
Yes it is that time of year already: course requests for the 2019-2020 school year. This should be an exciting time as your student is about to begin planning for the next school year. This will be our second year of doing course selections online. Teachers have gone in and made course recommendations for your student in advance to help guide them to the appropriate next level courses. This takes the guesswork out and makes it more streamlined for both the student and family assisting with this process.
Elective opportunities abound at Badger High School. We are always talking about the great opportunities we have for students. Please encourage your student to branch out and try something new.
Please take some time to discuss the course selection process with your student. Make selections carefully as once we build schedules making changes becomes very difficult. Also, keep in mind what future plans a student may have with courses and mapping them out to make sure you can get all the necessary prerequisites out of the way. I wish you and your student well as you begin the course request process for the 2019-2020 school year!

ATTENTION ALL JUNIOR FAMILIES
The State ACT and Work Keys Test will be administered on Wednesday, February 20th and Thursday, February 21st. Be sure to encourage good rest, hydration, and eating a good breakfast those days. Students will be on campus this year for the testing. Some light snacks and water will be provided; but again please encourage eating a substantial breakfast that day. Also, note that when they are done with testing for the day they may leave for the remainder of the day. Lunch will be served in our cafeteria after testing as well. Thanks for your help!
