Vision Screening at Badger
Students are able to stop down in the health office to have their vision screened using the district's vision screening machine (Welch Allyn Spot Vision Screener). Director of Health Services Stefanie Keisler will be screening students on Monday 11/1 and Monday 11/15 until 1:45pm.
**The Vision machine is not regularly stored at Badger and screenings will only be completed on pre-scheduled dates.
A printed result page will be provided to the student following the screening.
December's dates will be updated in the next newsletter.
The Spot Vision Screener enables fast and objective detection of six amblyopic (“lazy eye”) risk factors:
- Myopia - nearsightedness (trouble seeing objects far away)
- Hyperopia - farsightedness (trouble seeing objects close up)
- Astigmatism -common and generally treatable imperfection in the curvature of the eye that causes blurred distance and near vision(myopia)
- Anisometropia-a condition that occurs when your eyes have varying refractive powers, which can cause your eyes to focus unevenly
- Strabismus- Strabismus (crossed eyes) is a condition in which the eyes do not line up with one another.
- Anisocoria-unequal pupil size

Agriscience Day 2021
Third graders from Central-Denison, Randall, Star Center, Traver, and Woods Schools spent time learning about agriculture science at Badger High School on Friday, October 8th. The hands-on experience exposes the children to the career pathways in the world of agriculture and excites them for when they will be students at the high school.

Badger High School joined schools, early care centers, colleges, hospitals, and other organizations across the Great Lakes Region states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio in the eighth annual Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch. Participants celebrate National Farm to School Month and local farmers by crunching into locally grown apples Thursday, October 14th.

DNR Warden Bradley Wilson has again invited Badger High School to compete against Delavan High School and Big Foot High School in the Hunter Fight Off the Hunger challenge this year between October 18th and November 18th. The school with the highest weight of donated food will win the traveling trophy which is being held by the previous champion Delavan High.
The schools get to choose which food bank they would like the food to go to. Each classroom will have a collection box for students to bring in food. The classroom with the most weight of food will get free breakfast from Student Council! Let’s get the most food, Badgers!
There are also a drop off bins in the Commons and Main Office for community members who wish to support the food drive.

Dear Lake Geneva Schools Families,
Lake Geneva Food Service is participating in the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) Seamless Summer Option (SSO) for the entirety of the 2021-22 school year. This means that our schools provide free meals to all students! This program provides additional support and flexibility for our district to continue serving meals to children while maintaining safety measures and managing the impacts of the COVI D-19 pandemic.
Included in the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are nationwide supply chain and product availability shortages. Disruptions are due to a lack of availability of raw ingredients and labor to produce, unload, and transfer food products. Some food and/or beverage products normally provided to students may not be available or arrive as scheduled. Due to unforeseen circumstances, last-minute menu changes and product substitutions may occur. Be assured meals will remain balanced, healthy, and plentiful. We ask for patience and understanding as we do our best to meet the needs of your children.

I want to give a SHOUT OUT to the Badger Student Council for creating a fantastic Homecoming experience. We had record attendance at the Homecoming Football game and a week of activities and fun. We are also in the middle of post season play for all our Fall sports. Congratulations to all our fall athletes and their accomplishments. Great fun to watch and hear of the memories they are creating.
The Broadway musical Newsies is coming to Badger November 11-13th. I’ve listened to several rehearsals and this show is looking like a high octane, fun for all ages, kind of performance. Also this month, the Student Council is hosting a community Blood Drive on November 22.
As we head into the winter months, please remember to have a conversation with your student about winter driving tips. And, if driving to school, remind them to come in and purchase a parking tag for their vehicle.
Many of you may be familiar with the destructive TikTok trend that has vandalized schools around the country. Badger has had limited issues with this behavior and I greatly appreciate our students for not falling prey to this kind of manipulation. Please have a conversation with your student about this trend and how it has no place in our school. The majority of Badger students do not use their social media platforms for negative behaviors, but there is always room for increased kindness.

Scholarships
We are currently in the process of confirming scholarships from our community and seniors will be getting emails and announcements as scholarships become available. The Badger General Scholarship Application is currently available in the Scholarships area of the counseling webpage along with several others. Please pay close attention to due dates and where to turn in scholarship applications. If a scholarship does not have a due date listed, we are still waiting to hear back on that scholarship for this year.
Junior Conferences
Parents of Juniors have received an invitation by email to sign up online for a meeting with parent, student and counselor. In this meeting we will be discussing graduation requirements, post graduation plans, scholarships, transcripts, and more. If you still need to set up your appointment time, please contact your child's counselor.
College Goal Wisconsin
There are sessions throughout the Fall to help with filling out the FAFSA. These sessions are free and offer you all the help necessary to complete your FAFSA. To register and attend, go to www.collegegoalwi.org.
Work Permits
If students need a work permit, please bring the following to Mrs. Ingersoll in the Counseling Center: $10 cash, social security card and a letter from the employer. If a work permit is needed outside of school hours or Mrs. Ingersoll is unavailable, a work permit can be obtained from city hall.
