Parent Tech to Know Corner:
YikYak is a social media site that allows people to create, comment on, and view discussion threads within a 5-mile radius. This site was relaunched in 2021 and is a relatively anonymous site that is a breeding ground for harassment. We know that Badger students are using this site with many choosing not to due to the negative content. As a parent, knowledge is power, and in this case I hope it can assist you in talking with your teen about how they wish to walk in this world. Badger is doing our best to stop this behavior. YikYak’s website states that if someone believes they are being harmed, they can contact the company.

March is ACT month for Badger Juniors. On March 8, all Juniors in the State of Wisconsin will take this test. Juniors may use the score when applying to four-year universities or used to replace the Technical College placement testing (a score of 16 or higher). The test will take the majority of the day and Juniors are free to leave the building after testing is completed. Please talk with your student about the importance of doing their very best on the test. Junior level teachers have also helped prep our students for this test.
The end of the third quarter is just around the corner on March 25. Please be sure to have conversations with your student about grades and finishing the year strong. Course Selection for next year’s classes has ended. We hope that you’ve spent time with your student reviewing all the course offerings Badger has, checking out the various Academies to earn college credit, and choosing those that spark student interest and meet graduation requirements. If your student has not completed the scheduling process, please reach out to our Counseling Department to do so. Our next step is to build the schedule. Look for schedules to be mailed home in July.
If you pick up your student after school you know that the line of cars and buses can be precarious at times. Please know that our buses leave by 3:05pm each day. Best bet for a smooth pickup is to wait until after the buses leave.
Spring Break is at the end of this month. Wishing the Badger community a safe and enjoyable break.

ACT Testing
On March 8th, all Juniors will be taking the ACT test. Scores will be sent home and delivered to the school near the end of the school year so be on the lookout for those. If you would like to sign your student up to take the ACT test again, go to www.act.org to do so. Badger High School will be hosting an ACT testing date again on June 11th, 2022. You'll need to register for this test through the ACT website in order to take the test on this date at Badger. There are other dates available at other locations, which can also be found on the ACT website.
Scholarships
Several scholarship deadlines have passed but there are still other scholarships available for Seniors to apply for. Senior students have been given instructions on how to access scholarships via the Badger High School website where information on each scholarship can be found, as well as the applications. For those Seniors planning to attend a UW school in the fall, check out some other scholarships at this link: https://uwhelp.wisconsin.edu/counselors/navigating-financial-aid/uw-system-scholarship-links/.
Summer School
Be on the lookout for information regarding summer school sign up. Any courses that are offered for summer school have a separate sign up from regular course selection. Summer school course sign up is on a first come basis and will run from June 7th - 27th from 8am-12:15pm everyday.
Placement Testing
Now that many Seniors are making decisions on which school they will be attending in the Fall, each student should sign up for their individual college placement test. Students should contact their individual college to find out how to complete placement testing. To register for placement testing at any UW College, and for more information regarding UW College placement testing, please visit the following website: https://testing.wisc.edu/centerpages/regionaltesting.html
Work Permits
If a work permit is needed, please see Mrs. Ingersoll in the counseling center. You will need $10 cash, your social security card, and a letter from the employer stating that you will be working there.
