Prom 2023
Principal's Note

April is a short school days month with a great deal happening at Badger. Please note that our first week back from Spring Break will start with an eight period day on Tuesday, April 11th followed by a day of Odd Block and then Even Block classes. On April 18th Badger Freshmen and Sophomores will take the Pre-ACT test. This is a test that helps students prepare for the ACT. Eleventh and twelfth graders will not have school on this day.

The Pre-ACT and ACT tests are State mandated tests that can assist students in post high school planning. For example, if your student is planning on going to a technical college, 4 year university, 2 year university, the military, or into the world of work, the score they earn on the ACT can have a positive impact. For example, if your student scores a 16 or higher on the test, Gateway Technical College waives the entrance placement tests. For those attending a 2 or 4 year university, the score can lead to scholarships and be used to determine acceptance and placement. For those headed into the world of work, the ACT score can be used to offset future training needs.

At the end of the month, the Student Council is hosting a Blood Drive for the Badger community. This is just one example of the work our students do to ensure a positive impact on the larger Badger community.

Badger also has activities and sports gearing up for competitions. I hope you are able to join us for concerts, sporting events, and other activities throughout the month.

ACT Testing

Scores from the Junior March ACT test will be sent home and delivered to the school near the end of the school year so be on the lookout for those. If you would like to sign your student up to take the ACT test again, go to www.act.org to do so.

PreACT Secure Testing

All Freshman and Sophomores will be taking the PreACT Secure (Formerly ACT Aspire) test on April 18th. The PreACT Secure test is designed to map student progress in English, Math, Reading, Science and Writing. This information provides details on which subject skills are well developed and which skills may need more work while preparing students for the ACT test that will be taken during Junior year. The PreACT Secure testing will take place at Badger and only Freshmen and Sophomores will need to report to school.

Scholarships

Several scholarship deadlines have passed but there are still other scholarships available for Seniors to apply for. Senior students have been given instructions on how to access scholarships via the Badger High School website where information on each scholarship can be found, as well as the applications. They can be found here: https://bhs.badger.k12.wi.us/cms/One.aspx?portalId=453010&pageId=24238013 For those Seniors planning to attend a UW school in the fall, check out some other scholarships at this link: https://uwhelp.wisconsin.edu/counselors/navigating-financial-aid/uw-system-scholarship-links/.

Placement Testing

Now that many Seniors are making decisions on which school they will be attending in the Fall, placement testing will be happening. Students that are attending UW colleges will need to complete placement testing. To register for placement testing and for more information regarding placement testing, please visit the following website:

https://testing.wisc.edu/centerpages/regionaltesting.html

Work Permits

If a work permit is needed, please see Mrs. Ingersoll in the counseling center. You will need $10 cash, your social security card, and a letter from the employer stating that you will be working there. If Mrs. Ingersoll is not available, you can get a work permit from the Lake Geneva Schools District Office.

Badger Library

Badger Library hosts creative workshops in the FabLab throughout the year called Fab'LAB'. These workshops allow students to come in and make their creativity come to life. Each session focuses on a different aspect of the Badger FabLab. The next session of Fab'LAB' will begin mid-April and focus on 3D printing. Students who join will learn how to find quality 3D prints online, manipulate or create 3D objects using 3D modeling software, prepare their print for the 3D printer, and then print the design. These workshops are for any Badger student who is interested in learning how to use the FabLab for 3D printing. All students are welcome to join Fab'LAB'. Students should watch for more information on the Badger Library website and announcements.
