School Breakfast Program
Now that the school year is well underway, we are as committed as ever to our student's academic success. The first and best tool we can use to ensure all of our students are successful in school is to guarantee that each child begins the day with a healthy and nutritious breakfast – at home or school.
We would like to remind you that the School Breakfast Program is available to all students every school day. No advanced registration is necessary. These supervised meals are nutritionally balanced and vary daily. Second-chance breakfast is also available at the High School and Middle School.
School Breakfast is ideal for busy mornings when kids are running late, or parents have early work schedules. Often, kids are not hungry when they first wake up but are ready to eat when school begins. If breakfast at home is not convenient, please take advantage of breakfast here at school. Studies have shown that children who eat a nutritious breakfast have better behavior, attendance, and test scores.
School Breakfast Information
Price:
High School: $1.70
Middle and Elementary Schools: $1.60
Questions? Call: 262-348-1015
If you did not complete a School Meals Application for free or reduced price meals in September and would like to now, please call (Jaclyn Sanders 262-348-1015) for further information.
Thank you for helping us ensure that all our students start the school day alert, well-fed, and ready to learn.

| School attendance is very important, and we encourage families to make sure their children are in school as much as possible. However, children who are sick need to stay home for their well-being and to prevent others from becoming sick. Over the Thanksgiving break, I was rereading an article in the On Wisconsin magazine about the future of technology in the home. One of the professors leading the charge is a professor of computer science, psychology, and industrial engineering. What a combination. This is the future of our workforce - a diverse melding of different disciplines. Badger students are stepping into that world now. Through our Academies of Badger, students are able to chart their own course. Combining Badger, Advanced Placement, Transcripted Credit, and UW credit courses to create their own pathway forward.
In the next few months, students will sit down to select courses for next year. At the December Parent/Teacher Conference, our School Counselors will present information on selecting classes for the coming year. We will also have information specific to each subject area at tables throughout the PE Center for you on courses offered.
The Course Guide is already online (Career and Course Planning Guide) for families and students to browse through to check out all our course offerings. In late January, students will receive a copy of this guide. Please be sure to sit down with your student and discuss future goals and how Badger High School can facilitate that goal completion.
For Seniors, the next few months will be a time to reflect on academic progress and stave off “senioritis” to finish strong. Universities are still watching as we head into final exams for semester I and coursework for semester II. If your student is unsure of what path they wish to take after high school, please stop in or ask your student to stop in to make an appointment to see their counselor. They may also choose to make an appointment with our Gateway representative to discuss not only 2-year options but the full gamut of post-secondary options.
A gentle reminder that student tardiness to school and classes is part of the larger attendance accountability at school. This year we added a tardy kiosk to the Main Office, allowing for less congestion in the morning and getting students who are tardy to class as quickly as possible. We do understand how the “perfect storm” can hit on a given morning - the bus is missed, the car won’t start, or the alarm did not sound. We definitely allow for this infrequent occurrence. Please know that if frequency persists, consequences, including detentions, will occur for your student. Also, tardiness to school and class count toward the 10 days (80 hours) you, as a parent/guardian, can excuse. Please help us teach this important workplace skill and hold your student accountable when they choose to be late to school or tardy to class.
As we head into the winter driving season, I looked to AAA for some tips for all of us to keep in mind.
- Keep a bundle of cold-weather gear in your car, such as extra food and water, warm clothing, a flashlight, a glass scraper, blankets, medications, and more.
- Make certain your tires are properly inflated and have plenty of tread.
- Keep at least half a tank of fuel in your vehicle at all times.
- Never warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage.
-
Do not use cruise control when driving on any slippery surface, such as on ice and snow. ( Winter Driving Tips)
On behalf of the Badger Staff, I wish you and your family a very healthy and happy winter season.

FAFSA
As parents and guardians, January is your reminder to file your taxes. For the college bound student, this is a reminder to fill out the FAFSA form if you have not done so yet. FAFSA stands for the Free Application For Federal Student Aid. Any student looking to obtain federally funded grants and loans must complete the FAFSA in order to determine eligibility. Some students feel they will not be eligible for these types of aid and choose not to complete the form; however, keep in mind this form is sometimes a requirement in order to obtain additional scholarships and work study opportunities.
CLASS REGISTRATION
The online course selection will be done through PowerSchool and it will be available during each class registration week. After the online course selection window closes, any changes will need to be done by meeting with a counselor. The course guide will be available online on the Badger website. Please reference that when selecting courses. Information will begin to come out through the month of January as to how students will go online and select courses.
PARCHMENT TRANSCRIPT CHANGES
If you need a transcript sent to a college or the NCAA, students will still want to use www.parchment.com. The first two are free to send and any following will be $3.00 each. Due to a change on Parchment, transcripts will be $4.50 each after March 1st, 2023.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are becoming available on the Badger website in the Counseling section. The first of the deadlines arrive in December and Seniors have been sent a reminder about those. The General Scholarship Application is due on January 6th. There are many scholarships that have due dates later this spring as well. Please be aware of the criteria when applying, what the specific due date is and where to send the completed application. Good luck!
WORK PERMIT
If a work permit is needed, please see Mrs. Ingersoll in the counseling center. You will need $10 cash, your social security card, and a letter from the employer stating that you will be working there. If Mrs. Ingersoll is not available, you can get a work permit from city hall.
CONGRATULATIONS!
In November, Carroll University held onsite admissions at Badger High School. We would like to congratulate the students that received admission into the university!
