April 2024 Referendums

On the April 2 ballot, the Lake Geneva Joint #1 School District and the Lake Geneva-Genoa City Union (Badger) High School District will each ask the voters to approve exceeding the revenue limit by $3,000,000 beginning with the 2024-2025 school year for recurring purposes consisting of ongoing operational and maintenance expenses, infrastructure, technology and safety upgrades, and educational programming.

Why Referendum?

Our Districts face financial challenges that require the attention of our entire community. This is due to several factors:

  • Outdated Funding System
  • Inadequate State Funding
  • Growing Student Needs
  • Rising Operational Costs

What will Operational Referendums allow the districts to do?

  • Support for teaching and learning to increase student growth and achievement and offer competitive academic courses, programs, and services for all students.
  • Attract and retain the best educators by providing competitive salaries and benefits.
  • Address annual, ongoing maintenance on our aging buildings.
  • Cover rising inflationary costs on goods and services, including transportation, utilities, curriculum, supplies, and equipment.

What have the districts done to be fiscally responsible?

What is the estimated tax impact?

Principal's Note

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hope you and your family had a quality Spring Break. April is a busy month at Badger. The Third Quarter ends on Friday, April 5. Please have a conversation with your student about finishing the year strong. If you have any academic concerns, please contact your student’s teachers or counselor to develop a plan to assist your student. Now is the time to get after learning and grades to ensure a successful conclusion to the school year.

On April 9th Badger Freshmen and Sophomores will take the Pre-ACT test. This is a test that helps students prepare for the ACT. Eleventh and twelfth graders will not have school on this day.

The Pre-ACT and ACT tests are State mandated tests that can assist students in post high school planning. For example, if your student is planning on going to a technical college, 4 year university, 2 year university, the military, or into the world of work, the score they earn on the ACT can have a positive impact. For example, if your student scores a 16 or higher on the test, Gateway Technical College waives the entrance placement tests. For those attending a 2 or 4 year university, the score can lead to scholarships and be used to determine acceptance and placement. For those headed into the world of work, the ACT score can be used to offset future training needs.

The last of the State testing will occur on April 16th and 17th for our Sophomores. The state Forward exam will be administered in their Social Studies classes.

A reminder to all soon to be college athletes, April 18th is Badger’s Signing Day at 7:15am in the Main Gym. Please be sure you have contacted the Athletic Director’s office to participate.

At the end of the month (April 29th), the Student Council is hosting a Blood Drive for the Badger community. This is just one example of the work our students do to ensure a positive impact on the larger Badger community.

The last two full months of the school year go fast. Take some time to savor the season with your student.

Warm Regards,

Jenny Straus

Direct Admit

We have exciting news!! The Direct Admit Wisconsin program is launching in 2024 for the Badger High School graduating class of 2025! Direct Admit Wisconsin is an initiative by the

Universities of Wisconsin to proactively offer admission to qualifying high school students in between their junior and senior years of high school. Direct admission removes the traditional

application process and instead uses data provided by the high school to admit students to universities.

You may be wondering, how can I be eligible to be a part of this Direct Admit Program?

Well, you must be enrolled in a participating school district and opt to participate in the program. Then, if you are on track to complete the credits required for admission – 4 units of English, 3 units of approved math, 3 units of social science, 3 units of natural science, and 4 additional academic units – you will receive an admission offer through Direct Admit Wisconsin. Each

participating UW University has its own GPA and course requirements. Students are matched with participating UW universities using progress towards graduation, whether they are on track to complete the required credits for admission to the Universities of Wisconsin and their unweighted cumulative GPA. Check the Direct Admit website to view participating Wisconsin Universities and gather more information!
