The Lake Geneva-Genoa City Union (Badger) High School Board approved the notice of retirement provided by Principal Ms. Jennifer Straus, effective June 30, 2024

Ms. Straus has served as an administrator at Badger High School for 15 years, joining Badger as an Associate Principal in 2009 and then as Principal in 2019. Prior to joining Badger, Ms. Straus served as an Associate Principal and Social Studies Teacher in other Wisconsin School Districts. Ms. Straus has dedicated 33 years to the field of education.

“I have enjoyed working with the students, teachers, and staff at Badger High School,” Straus said. “My goal has been to be the best principal I can be for the Badger community and to live my life with compassion and kindness, and I believe I have done just that,” she continued.” “I want to thank our dedicated teachers and staff, fantastic students and parents, and the great communities for their unwavering support of Badger High School,” Straus concluded.

The School Board and Superintendent, Dr. Peter Wilson, thanked Straus for her 15 years of dedicated service to Lake Geneva Schools.

“Ms. Straus has been an esteemed member of Lake Geneva Schools. We appreciate her years of service and wish her a fantastic retirement,” stated Superintendent Dr. Peter Wilson. “As we plan for next school year, I am confident we will find a highly qualified and passionate leader to work in partnership with our Associate Principals, Mrs. Lisa Kendall and Mrs. Jenn Chironis, as well as our Teachers and Staff, to continue to move Badger forward and do what is in the best interest of all our students,” Wilson continued.

Ms. Straus will continue to serve as Badger’s Principal through June 30, 2024. A collaborative process involving students, parents, community members, employees, and school board members will be implemented this winter/spring to identify and select the next Badger High School Principal. More specific information will be shared as it becomes available.

February 1, 2, 3 Badger Theater will perform the Winter Play "Bethel Park Falls" by Jason Pizzarello at 7:00 pm in the Badger Recital Hall

The residents of the small town of Bethel are facing a crisis: Their beloved park has been sold out from under them and it's sending their lives into a tailspin. In nine interconnected vignettes, sixteen locals grapple with the loss of jobs, homes, and spouses, but find love, courage, and forgiveness as the park magically transforms through four seasons of the year in a single day. From a tired security guard trying get home to her kids, to a young mayor in over his head, to a nostalgic fisherman who can't seem to catch anything, everyone takes a fall... and picks themselves up again. Bethel Park Falls draws a group of complex, fascinating, funny people together into one poignant story about the spaces where communities connect.

Principal's Note

Dear Parents and Guardians,

February 7, 2024 will be our first Badger Showcase.  This is a night where students and families can tour Badger, sit in on sectionals with information for those new to Badger and looking to learn more about the process of selecting classes for the 2024-25 school year.  There will be information from each department, activity, and athletics along with demonstrations in specific areas of the building.  Our Leadership Class will give tours to incoming students and families.  It will be an engaging night that seeks to educate our Badger community about all the opportunities we have for our students and engage in activities that empower students to make quality choices when they choose their classes for the 2024-2025 school year.

February 8, 2024 Badger will have an extended Homeroom.  During the hour, 9-11 grade students will be engaged in discussing and selecting their classes for next school year.  Students must choose enough classes to fill an 8 period day for both semester I and II.  Many students decide to fill one period each semester with a study hall to better manage their time.  Please look over the course guide to familiarize yourself with all the varied opportunities available at Badger.  Course selection ends on February 16.  Please reinforce the importance of choosing electives students want to take.  Once this schedule is created, there is limited ability to change.

During this extended Homeroom, Seniors will take a CTEERS survey that seeks to ascertain where they are headed after high school.  We also ask our Seniors to comment on what Badger has done well for them and what we need to improve upon.  All students will attend a presentation on the issues surrounding vaping during this extended Homeroom as well.

Please continue to support our Badger athletes and actors during the month of February.

Warm Regards,

Jenny Straus

Badger Library

Badger Library’s First Annual Battle of the Books Championship was a hard-fought battle but The Book Was Better team secured their spot as champions. Collectively, the teams read twenty books with approximately 4,000 pages total and spent many nights after school preparing for the battle.  The Book Was Better team will now move on to compete in a statewide competition to see where they rank against other district championship teams. Best of luck to them!
