CHANGES IN ACT TESTING
In order to give our students the best possible testing environment for the ACT, we will be making a few positive changes this spring. The ACT will be held on March 7th, 2023, and will be administered electronically using chromebooks. This will be a day for Juniors only; Freshman, Sophomores and Seniors will have no school on this day.
How will this help your student? There will be no distractions of bells or students in the hallway for passing periods. We will be able to spread our Juniors across more rooms, resulting in a more comfortable testing environment, and reducing testing anxiety. Additionally, all of our teachers will be engaged in an ACT role, allowing for multiple proctors per testing room. This practice helps ensure our testing integrity.
What has not changed? All Juniors are still required by the state to take the ACT.
We will also be using this same format for the PreACT Secure test taken by the Freshman and Sophomore students. This is the former ACT Aspire test. The PreACT Secure will be held on April 18th, 2023. Juniors and Senior students will have no school on this day.

Congratulations to all our participants in Badger winter sports and activities! You have much to be proud of. I do hope you’ve been able to attend our sporting events, concerts, and our winter play over the course of the last month.
The Junior Class will take the ACT on March 7th. This day, only Juniors will be attending. If your student is planning on going to a technical college, 4 year university, 2 year university, the military, or into the world of work, the score they earn on the ACT can have a positive impact. For example, if your student scores a 16 or higher on the test, Gateway Technical College waives the entrance placement tests. For those attending a 2 or 4 year university, the score can lead to scholarships and be used to determine acceptance and placement. For those headed into the world of work, the ACT score can be used to offset future training needs.
Badger English, science, social studies, and math departments throughout the year have students practicing with ACT questions and test taking strategies. Badger had a well attended ACT “Boot Camp” students opted to attend after school. Since this is the first year ACT is online, Juniors have also been practicing how to take the test in this format. Please be sure your student gets a good night sleep on March 6 as part of their preparation for the test.
Our students will be busy this month with Band and Choir concerts (Orchestra had a wonderful concert the last full week of February), Sports Banquets, and preparing for the end of the 3rd Quarter on March 24th.
Wishing you and your family a healthy and fun start to Spring.

ACT Testing
Scores from the Junior March ACT test will be sent home and delivered to the school near the end of the school year so be on the lookout for those. If you would like to sign your student up to take the ACT test again, go to www.act.org to do so.
Pre ACT Testing
All Freshman and Sophomores will be taking the Pre ACT test on April 18th. The Pre ACT test is designed to map student progress in English, Math, Reading, Science and Writing. This information provides details on which subject skills are well developed and which skills may need more work while preparing students for the ACT test that will be taken during Junior year. The Pre ACT testing will take place at Badger.
Scholarships
Several scholarship deadlines have passed but there are still other scholarships available for Seniors to apply for. Senior students have been given instructions on how to access scholarships via the Badger High School website where information on each scholarship can be found, as well as the applications. They can be found here: https://bhs.badger.k12.wi.us/cms/One.aspx?portalId=453010&pageId=24238013 For those Seniors planning to attend a UW school in the fall, check out some other scholarships at this link: https://uwhelp.wisconsin.edu/counselors/navigating-financial-aid/uw-system-scholarship-links/.
Placement Testing
Now that many Seniors are making decisions on which school they will be attending in the Fall, placement testing will be happening. Students that are attending UW colleges will need to complete placement testing. To register for placement testing and for more information regarding placement testing, please visit the following website:
https://testing.wisc.edu/centerpages/regionaltesting.html
Work Permits
If a work permit is needed, please see Mrs. Ingersoll in the counseling center.
