Dear Bagley Family,
The end of the spring semester, with graduation and all the other end-of-year celebrations, is about a month behind us now. I offer my sincere thanks to the staff and faculty who made this academic year possible. Even as we have grown to become the largest college by enrollment at MSU, our faculty and staff continue to provide a personal touch to teaching, advising, and supporting students. I also offer my warmest congratulations to our May 2026 graduates, who will go out into the world and do amazing things. It was a privilege to congratulate you as you walked across the stage.
I’ve always felt that one of the best parts of being at a university, as a student or a member of the faculty/staff, is the change in rhythm that accompanies the academic calendar. The summer provides an opportunity to move into a different mode, whether it's an internship or co-op, a focus on research and scholarship, or just a shift in the types of tasks that you tackle. For example, Dr. Shana Lee and her K-12 outreach staff have just completed an intensive few weeks of summer engineering camps. The young, excited future engineers brought a different kind of energy to the spaces in and around McCain. We are about halfway through our Summer Bridge program, led by Dr. Jean Mohammadi-Aragh and Ms. Kristi Piper. We have an all-time high number of students participating in Summer Bridge this year; these incoming students are learning about their future professions while leveling up in math and chemistry. Whatever your summer plans are, I hope you enjoy the season and take some time off to recharge.
Ms. Kristen Polk has curated a great set of stories below, focusing on student, faculty, and alumni success. Please take a moment to watch the video about the recent campus visit of alumnus Mr. Matt Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey was the Mission Manager for NASA’s recent Artemis II mission; he talks about how the combination of a strong D1 baseball program and a strong aerospace engineering program brought him to State.
Thank you for letting me be your dean.
Dave
