Parshas Acharei Mos
ACHDUS QUILT
During Covid, every student in Bais Yaakov was given an individual piece of cloth to express her creativity and individual experience. These pieces were created, cut, distributed and collected by Mrs. Perri Goldenhersh and her dedicated cadre of parent volunteers who took this idea from start to finish. Once all the individual squares were collected, they were sewn together into magnificent quilts. A pasuk from Yeshaya was embroidered on the side of the quilt to convey a message of hope which encourages Klal Yisroel to wait patiently until our “challenging times” pass. These beautiful quilts now hang in each of Bais Yaakov’s three buildings.
ROSH CHODESH NISSAN PETTING ZOO
On Rosh Chodesh Nissan, a Petting Zoo came to visit our Preschool. The girls were able to pet and feed the goats and lambs. We also had the opportunity to see split hooves up close! The girls truly enjoyed the Petting Zoo and had a great time learning about kosher animals and the Korban Pesach. Once again, we thank our PTA for their gracious support .
FIRST GRADE KRIAH LADDER
Each First Grader brought home an exciting Kriah assignment to complete over Pesach vacation. We are so proud of the many girls who completed the assignment. Mrs. Liora Rosen, our Limudei Kodesh Coordinator, offered this exciting motivator to encourage the girls to continue mastering their skills while they climbed the "Kriah Ladder" one rung at a time. Kudos to our First Grade readers!
PESACH PROJECTS
Our moros enrich every girl’s Seder night with Haggados and projects that stimulate excitement over Pesach. Each morah takes great pride in helping her students create masterpieces to take home and cherish. Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring the Second Grade Projects.
SECOND GRADE MATZAH BAKERS
Rabbi Hillel Baron of Howard County Lubavitch brought his full-scale replica of a Matzah Factory to Bais Yaakov, courtesy of our PTA. Rabbi Baron explained the meaning of 18-minute matzos. He helped the girls understand how important it is to do mitzvos with the right intention. The girls learned about the process of grinding grain kernels into flour, mixing water with the flour to make dough, shaping the dough into matzah and how to bake it. They were then given dough to prepare their own personal matzah which were baked in a real matzah oven!
LECH LECHA EXPERIENCE
Our Second Grade recently began learning Parshas Lech Lecha. Mrs. Liora Rosen took them on a surprise trek to an unknown destination to simulate Avraham Avinu’s journey to Eretz Yisroel! The cold weather required the girls to bundle up and take their Chumashim on their journey, which ended in our new storage sheds. The girls enjoyed the change of venue for an exciting lesson in Chumash!
SECOND GRADE CENTERS
Miss Shevy Mellman’s Second Grade enjoy their weekly Language Arts Centers. The classroom is transformed into four groups of four different activities for ten minutes each. The girls learn as they transition from one center to the next. Some of the centers include “Decodable Story,” “Hop the Adjective,” “Trick Words Unscramble” and “Read and Sequence.” The girls enjoy the opportunity to move around, have fun and learn all at the same time!
