To Our Dear Bais Yaakov Community,
I want to take this opportunity to express our collective hakoras hatov for your ongoing support of the school, especially during our "Growing Our Future" campaign. Boruch Hashem, having surpassed our goal, the campaign's tremendous success speaks for itself and the extraordinary efforts of so many. The way that hundreds of our parents, staff, alumnae, and friends, along with thousands of donors, all came together, with the common goal of strengthening our school, has been inspiring.
We look forward to more opportunities to work together on behalf of Bais Yaakov and our talmidos. Thank you all so much!
Sincerely,
Rabbi Aaron Gross
Director of Development

MISHENICHNAS ADAR
Adar II arrived with a bang, as each grade decorated their hallways with an original, school related theme. The excellent (egg-cellent) front lobby display had everyone CRACKIN(G) up, and the live props appeared as if they might simply add color to their high school experience by flying the coop, as others have in fact been SEEN doing. All are looking forward to an exciting Chagiga to celebrate the simcha of the Purim as well as the truly singular achdus that permeates our school.

ROSH CHODESH ADAR BONANZA
More Adar fun came in the form of the G.O. Rosh Chodesh Adar Program, which included a competition, Glow in the Dark Dancing, and the annual Adar Auction- which this year raised the stunning sum of $10,700 for Ahavas Yisroel Charity Fund!

"TECH TALK"
Our Eleventh and Twelfth Grades joined their grades' fellow students from across the country, who live-streamed from their schools into a gathering in Brooklyn, NY on the topics of ruchniyus growth in general and technology in particular. The students heard heartfelt words from one of our generation’s most inspiring and dedicated leaders, Rav Elya Brudny, shlit”a, as well as from Rebbetzin Rena Tarshish and Mrs. Gitty Grunwald, LCSW. Mrs. Grunwald helped the students understand how easily well meaning people can get caught in the web of excessive, often unhealthy, and even, chas v’shalom, improper use of devices. The program was most impactful.

EXHIBIT JUNKET
The Twelfth Grade was off this week to a Lakewood destination - Shiras Devorah High School, to view the school’s Holocaust Exhibit, which to a large extent modeled itself after the legendary exhibits of our Bais Yaakov. The students also heard from an inspiring speaker, Mrs. Tehilla Gailer, to round out their trip. Their visit added perspective to the outstanding Holocaust studies classes the students undertake in their senior high school year with Twelfth Grade Teacher, Grade Counselor, and mentor Mrs. Shifra Rabenstein. Thank you, Mrs. Rabenstein for arranging this trip, thank you to the chaperones and thank you Bais Yaakov for treating our students to a pizza lunch in Lakewood!

GRADE ACTIVITIES
Nothing beats viewing plans coming off the drawing board and succeeding in their actual implementation. In transitioning to the needs and reality of a larger school, the high school faculty put its collective head together last summer to plan specialized grade programs, on top of the collective, whole school programming that had exclusively been the way of the past. This plan has seen smaller grade activities dotting the year but is now reaching its fullest expression in grand Melave Malkas and dinners. The Eleventh Grade enjoyed a warm, exciting Melave Malka last Motzei Shabbos with delicious food, a lively interactive game, exciting video, dancing, and simchadik, uplifting words from Rav Tzvi Meir Feldheim, shlit”a Rosh Mesivta of Yeshiva Keser Torah. The planning and arrangements for the program were all done by the students under the direction of Mrs. Shira Abramovitz.

MISHMERES MOMENTUM
Mrs. Shira Abramovitz is also the advisor to our Dr. Bertha Nelkin Mishmeres Program. Thank you Mishmeres for your exciting introduction to this month’s new focus on Machsom L’fi, as each class is designating specific hours for their commitment to extra care in speech.

SPEAKING OF SPEAKERS
Yet other speakers have brought messages that were inspiring, thought provoking, and original. Thank you, Discovery, for providing important ideas relating to the negative behavior of geneivas da’as (deception), through the insightful words of Mrs. Pnina Jakobovitz and for having Miss Rina Lipsky speak movingly about the all-relevant teenage topic of Friendship. And thank you to Rabbi Shlomo Horwitz for your thought provoking words about how Avrohom Avinu was assured and self-confident, despite viewing the world and life in a diametrically opposed way to all others. Rabbi Horwitz kept us all on the edge of our seats during the beautiful, Bais Yaakov hosted Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.

HEALTHY HABITS
It’s been quite a few years since the High School offered insightful and useful health classes, the contents of which were carefully crafted by Mrs. Esther Tendler a”h. New classes, to be based on Mrs. Tendlers syllabus, are now being reintroduced at school, thanks to the efforts and devotion of our school nurse, Mrs. Ilana Hoenlein. The pilot program is being offered this year to Ninth and Eleventh Grades.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
“Thank you, Rabbi Shapiro, for taking five minutes to write a letter that gives me chizuk, even twenty-five- plus years later”
A note that appeared in Family First Magazine from a grateful student, who has received chizuk throughout her life from an encouraging note that our Associate Principal, Rabbi Yehoshua Shapiro, attached to her report card as a high school student.
