BAIS YAAKOV ALUMNAE WIN FIRST PLACE IN NATIONAL HACKATHON
Congratulations on yet another Bais Yaakov major success story, this one shared with Women’s Institute of Torah Seminary & College (WITS), where our alumnae are now in attendance. In a National Hackathon virtual event organized by Touro's Lander College for Women (LCW), Bais Yaakov High School alumnae won FIRST PLACE! Congratulations to first place winners Avigayil Schuchman, Rivka Weiskopf, Chava Meth, Devorah Preiser and Aliza Klein. Special thanks to Bais Yaakov High School teachers and mentors, themselves alumnae, Mrs. Ora Attar and Mrs. Sarena Schwartz.
ADAR RUACH PERMEATES THE HIGH SCHOOL
Joyous Adar ruach permeated the walls and halls of the high school building before Purim, as students brought the school to life with ingenious creations highlighting the lighter side of high school life. These included advice for seniors regarding future shidduch decisions, a focus on the massive wealth brought into administration coffers through the highly profitable mask knas system, and so many other clever ideas. Thank you students for bringing simcha and wholesome fun into the high school experience!
SEMINARY PLACEMENT
Seminary acceptances have been finalized! As a result of the hard work and intuitive talent of our staff, as well as trusting relationships between our high school and seminary heads, (and of course thanks to our boasting the most wonderful Twelfth Graders in North America!), we have enjoyed relatively early success in ensuring a seminary place for every senior headed for Eretz Yisroel. Special thanks to Mrs. Brenda Willner and Mrs. Elise Wolf, the primary advisors and mentors in this process, whose ingenuity and knowledge of our students, incomparable communication skills, and 24/7 weeks of endless toil have brought our students success at finding placements year after year. And a special yeyasher koach to this year’s TTT’s (The Taciturn Team), who, out of sensitivity to making school a “safe zone” vis-a-vis seminary related tensions and distraction, volunteered to refrain from seminary talk in school from Sukkos until the present.
ONGOING HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Despite Corona’s challenges, the high school has succeeded in sponsoring one successful program after another, each one filled with excitement, energy, impressive substance, and inspiration, all within guidelines set to keep the students safe and healthy. Thank you to the G.O. for the amazing by-grade Purim activity and talent show in the place of a school-wide chagigah - it indeed seemed that we were reaping the benefits of true hashgacha pratis (Divine Providence), as the cold winter broke for just ONE SINGLE DAY(!), warming us in the wonderful rays of the sun, apparently reflecting the warm embrace of the Ribono Shel Olam, as He looked down lovingly at our genuine attempt to celebrate the ruach of Adar – truly a remarkable nes nistar (hidden miracle)!... to Discovery for a powerful program introducing this year’s technology challenge and featuring alumna Mrs. Malka Heineman (nee` Spetner) in a truly wonderful presentation,…to Mishmeres, kicking off its new Pesach vacation Machsom L’fi Program,…to Gedolei Yisroel, offering yet another carefully researched set of leader portraits for students to study and be tested on,… and to yet another unforgettable Yom Iyun created by Mrs. Shifra Rabenstein, with the able assistance of Mrs. Shulamit Zeiger and the inspired coordination of Mrs. Devorah Krakauer, bringing the school into the ruach of the chag, as it focused on the theme of forging nationhood, with special guest speaker Mrs. Sarale Backenroth, and also featuring morning divrei zichronos by Rabbi Zweig about Rav Sheftel Neuberger, zt”l, menahel of Yeshivas Ner Yisroel. Finally, the best is yet to come, as we gear up for a full-fledged return to Exhibit prep right after Pesach
