FIFTH GRADE DEBATES
study how to write an effective persuasive argument in their Language Arts class, they are also studying debate techniques. The students were given an opportunity to debate the topic of 'Should the Government attach labels to soda bottles, warning consumers of the sugar content?' The students refined their oral and written skills while making claims, presenting evidence, and defending against counter-claims. They each found a solid basis to form their opinions and experienced a new level of discussion around a serious topic.
