PRESCHOOL SUKKOS PROJECTS

SECOND GRADE STUDENTS RECEIVE THEIR SEFER TEHILLIM
Our Second Grade students received their Tehillim this week upon their return to school after Sukkos. We are looking forward to infusing all of our  talmidos with a deep love for Tehillim. This year for the very first time, we handed out the new Artscroll Chinuch Tehillim. Each sefer has beautiful formatting with large, clear Hebrew type and numbered lines to help the students find their place quickly. We hope that this introduction will be the beginning of a life-long connection! The girls will continue to receive guided instruction in all the kriah rules as the year unfolds. Please encourage your daughters to practice their kriah by reading a few lines each day as they earn their Malkas Tehillim crown!

DASSY AND BASSY
Our two school counselors, Mrs. Rachelle Tajerstein and Mrs. Libby Kraft, presented the first module of a new social skills program designed to assist our First and Second Grade students in creating new friendships using two characters, Dassy and Bassy. The teachers put on a skit modeling appropriate social interactions. The girls created their own Dassy and Bassy puppets to practice these skills with their friends. They were taught four basic steps on how to make friends:
  • Stand up/sit up straight
  • Look the other person in the eye
  • Smile
  • Say, "Hi, I'm...."

יפה תלמוד תורה עם דרך ארץ
We will introduce our new mascot butterfly shown here with Tehila, Kayla and Bracha.
After Sukkos, we began our new Respect initiative - יפה תלמוד תורה עם דרך ארץ! Every few weeks we will focus on a new target area that will build a culture of respect to ourselves, to others, and to property, in the classroom, lunchroom, playground, hallway, and bathroom.

For the next few weeks, we will be focusing on:

1. Respect of Self- will be focused on in our classrooms by saying "Please", "Thank you" and "Excuse me", as well as offering kind words and compliments. The girls are learning that using kind words is a demonstration of respect as one becomes a person who only speaks kindly.

2. Respect of Others- will be focused on in our hallways by walking quietly as not to disturb others.

3. Respect of Property- will be focused on in the lunchroom and playground during recess and lunch times by picking up trash- your own or someone else's.

Look out for notes which will be sent home describing your daughter's respectful  behavior. The girls will earn butterflies in the classrooms which will contribute to a school wide mural.

We ask our parents to please send in notes to school when your daughters demonstrates respect at home so we can further reinforce it in school.
$500 PRESENTED TO THE JEWISH CARING NETWORK
This week on Tuesday morning,  Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan, the Upper and Lower Elementary divisions, presented
From left to right: Rabbi Stein, Mrs Chaya Drabkin and Mrs Devorah Goldstein of Gevuras Yarden,
Rabbi Sanders.
Gevuras Yarden, the Jewish Caring Network, with a check for $500. This represented the students' Tzedakah  contributions between Rosh Hashana and Sukkos. This contribution was made as a  zechus for a Refua Shelima for Chaya Musya Bas Tova.

Welcome to Bais Yaakov
An annual luncheon is held in both the Elementary divisions to welcome all new girls to school. This gives them an opportunity to met and get to know their principals. Each girl in our school is unique and adds to the spirit that is Bais Yaakov. We are so excited they have joined us and wish every one of them much Hatzlacha here!

FUNDATIONS
This year we are exploring a Wilson based program, Fundations, focusing on building our phonics  skills from Kindergarten through Second Grade. Using the system's trademark blue pocket system, with the "Echo the Owl" pointer, enables the students to identify vowels, consonants, digraphs and their sounds with much greater ease!
