Dear Baker Families,

At the heart of the Baker education is the connection between our students, teachers and families. During this extraordinary time, we are all balancing new realities in our school, jobs and homes and yet, as we put our students at the center of our decisions, we are asking how we can best serve them.

In response, our summer team is designing four weeks of complimentary programming for our current and new Baker students this summer, maintaining and building connections, while offering wonderful learning experiences during the summer months. In addition, we are offering a Design/Engineering and Game Design series of fee-based courses. You’ll see more information in the bulletin below.

In addition, our ASA/PLA team has designed some unique offerings for you in order to keep our younger students connected. Please see info about the new 30 minute hang-outs below.

Also, noted in the bulletin are upcoming Gather sessions - for 8th grade families and for current Preschool - Seventh Grade families. I’m looking forward to sharing plans for the 8th grade graduation and our planning for the 2020-2021 school year, respectively. In the midst of much uncertainty, our team is committed to an excellent end of the school year and beginning to the 2020-2021 school year. We’d like to share where we are, what’s to come, and ways that you can support.

Announcing Summer 2020 Programming
As of May 1, we made the difficult decision to cancel our in-person Summer Discovery Camp for 2020 due to the ongoing Stay at Home order from Governor Pritzker and the uncertainty about the months to come.

In order to stay connected this summer, we have two exciting opportunities for our Baker families.

No Fee Summer Programming for Baker Students - Summer Collaborative
We are planning four weeks of complimentary programming that will be designed to continue learning engagement and stay connected. Baker teachers and/or associates will be leading these special classes.

Fee-Based Virtual Camp Offerings
We will have fee-based virtual camp offerings in design-engineering and game design throughout the summer.

There will be 8 weeks of options for rising 5th-8th graders available in two-week blocks. For rising 3rd-4th graders, we will have two one-week stand alone options for the design-engineering classes.

Registration details COMING SOON!

We are excited to announce PLA Hangouts!

What are PLA Hangouts?
They are time to connect with PLA teachers (they miss you!) either 1 on 1 or in a small group. Each Hangout is 30 minutes long, and the time will be filled with reading books, telling stories, going on scavenger hunts, catching up and talking, drawing/coloring/creating, dancing, putting on puppet shows, doing yoga, building with blocks, recycled materials or whatever you have around, and more. Once you have signed-up for a hangout, we encourage you to invite 1-4 friends to join too!

How does my child participate?
Detailed sign-up information can be found on the ASAs & Community Offerings Google Classroom.

When do PLA Hangouts take place?
Hangouts are available by appointment before school from 8-10am and after school from 3:15-5:45pm starting Monday 5/11.
