MARCH 20, 2020
Dear Baker Families,

Given the highly relational nature of our community and the essence of our hands-on education, this message is hard to write. For the near future, Baker will be engaged in active e-learning days. We will continue with e-learning through Monday, April 20. At that time, we will assess the situation in order to ensure the health and safety of our children and community. We are guided by the recommendations from public health and governmental officials, as well as our independent school organization, NAIS, and our fellow regional independent schools.

Anticipated schedule:
Monday, March 23 - Friday, March 27 - Spring Break
Monday, March 30 - Remote e-learning resumes
Friday, April 10 - No School, Good Friday
Monday, April 13 - Remote e-Learning resumes
Tuesday, April 21 - Anticipated return to school

Our team had planned for one week of e-learning and I could not be more proud of their creation of content, adaptability to a new platform, and creative ways they found to check in with children and families. Since we will be engaged for a longer period of time in e-learning, we know we’ll need to adjust and refine some practices. We are partnering with you in a new way, and we know that you will need different things from us as you support your children.

In order to do this well, we are taking the following actions:

  • Based on feedback from teachers, parents, and students, we will work to provide more direct contact between teachers and students after Spring Break.

  • In order to give our teachers a regular time to reflect, share, and refine practices, we will shorten “office hours” on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. - noon so teachers can meet in the afternoon. This will begin on Wednesday, April 1.

  • We'd love to hear from you! Take this 5-minute survey and share your input with us.

Should you have a specific concern for your child not currently addressed in our plans above, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

In partnership,

Carly Andrews
Head of School

P.S. As the e-learning dates extend, this also impacts after school programming, athletics and a few other social dates. Our staff will be in touch with families who are registered for ASA/PLA, athletics and benefit-related socials.
