Dear Families,

As we move through Black History Month, we are reminded that our history isn't just a collection of dates and statistics. It is the heartbeat of our resilience and culture, forever evolving the blueprint for our children’s future.

At Black Family University, we believe the strongest way to honour our collective is to invest deeply in the roots of our community and, ultimately, our families.

This month is a celebration of our collective power and a call to action to continue building a legacy of excellence. By coming together to learn and grow, we aren't just improving our individual households, we are strengthening the fabric of our entire community and showing our children that their potential is limitless when backed by a tribe that cares.

We are overjoyed to bring this mission to life right here in Bakersfield with the launch of our foundational 10-module program at three new locations!

Kicking off by getting to know some of our new families at Mckinley Family Night on Wednesday the 18th, and Emerson's Black History Month Picnic on Friday the 20th.

We will then officially launch at Emerson Middle School on Tuesday the 24th, McKinley Elementary School on Wednesday the 25th, and Stella Hills Elementary School on Thursday the 26th.

This program is completely free, but because we prioritize intimate, impactful connection, we can only host 30 parents per school.

We urge you to secure your spot quickly to join this cohort. These sessions can be healing and have become a form of therapy for our participants.

After following through on your journey, there is no greater feeling than our graduation ceremony, where your children will get to witness firsthand your dedication to their academic journey and success.

Let’s make history together by investing in the here and now.

It has been a busy, inspiring season of connection and collaboration... and we’re just getting started.

As Dr. Frances Cress Welsing once said, "We must prioritize the Black family, for it is the unit of survival and the foundation of our community’s strength."

Wishing you and your family a fantastic week ahead,
