A Message from Chris Snyder, Principal

Dear Bakie Families,
I hope that your new year is off to a great start. We look forward to many of our students returning to in-person learning Monday. For most of our staff and students, it will have been a full three weeks since they have been here. And for a small number of our students, Monday will be the first time they have come to Bakie this school year. Included below is some information about the procedures that we have been using for in-person learning since October.
District Re-opening Plan:

Early Release:
The School Board approved the continuation of early release on Wednesday’s through February break. Bakie students will be released at 1:15PM on January 13th, 20th, 27th, February 3rd, 10th, & 17th.
Attendance Expectations:
Please note that families who have opted for in-person learning should plan on sending students to school unless they are sick or need to quarantine for reasons related to COVID-19. Staying home to do school work remotely is not an option, unless your family opted for remote learning through April break.

We still strongly recommend any family who can drive their child(ren) to and from school to please do so. We are trying to keep the total number of students on buses as low as possible. You can refer to the drop-off/pick-up traffic pattern below. |

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED
FOR SANBORN REGIONAL INTEGRATED PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
The Sanborn Regional Integrated Preschool Program is currently accepting applications for the 2021- 2022 school year for the three-year-old and four-year-old preschool programs. The Preschool is located at the D.J.Bakie Elementary School in Kingston, NH.
The three-year-old program is held Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Eligible children must be three years old by September 30, 2021 and be residents of Kingston or Newton, New Hampshire.
The four-year-old program is held Mondays through Thursdays from 12:00-3:00 PM for residents of Kingston and Newton. Eligible children must be four years old by September 30, 2021. There are limited openings in the four-year-old program.
Tuition for the three-year program is $165 per month and the four-year-old program is $200 per month. A tuition agreement form must be completed and returned in order to participate in the program. Enrollment is limited, and the deadline for submitting an application is Friday, February 26, 2021.
Should the district still be in remote learning, we may not have in person learning for tuition students.
All applicants must participate in a developmental screening process. Please note that this is not a Child Find. KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
for Newton and Kingston, NH
If your child will be five years old by September 30, 2021 and you are a resident of Kingston or Newton, NH, he or she should register for full day kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year. Please go to our website at http://www.sau17.org/3/home and click on the 2021-2022 kindergarten registration link to provide us with your child’s information. All incoming kindergarten students are required to participate in a screening process. Student screenings will take place in May with specific dates to be determined.
Registration forms will be available online via our school website in March. Additional documentation required to complete the registration process includes a current physical & immunization record and proof of residency documentations. The Sanborn Regional School District has defined the following acceptable residency documents: a copy of a current utility bill (electric, cable, gas, oil) showing your name and address (no P.O. Boxes), along with either a signed lease, notarized letter from Builder or Realtor, property tax bill, settlement document on a new home or a property deed. We ask that registration be completed no later than June 1 st.
New Hampshire State Law requires all children to have had immunizations for DPT, Polio, Mumps, Measles, German Measles, Chicken Pox, and Hepatitis B prior to entry to school. They also require each child to have a complete medical examination within one year prior to entry into kindergarten.
A virtual orientation and information meeting for parents of incoming kindergarten students will be scheduled in the April timeframe. This event is designed for parents/guardians only please.

When selecting a mask, there are many choices.
Here are some do's and don'ts.
|
|
Wear a mask correctly and consistently for the best protection.
- Be sure to wash your hands before putting on a mask.
- Do NOT touch the mask when wearing it.
- Do wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin.
- Do wear a mask that fits snugly against the sides of your face.

Health and safety tips from the Bakie Health Office:

Screen your child for symptoms of Covid-19 or risk factors of exposure before sending them to school. Students with any symptom/risk factor shall not be sent to school

Any student with even mild symptoms of Covid-19 must stay home and get tested for Covid-19

Before in person school starts, have your child wear their face mask for longer periods to practice for wearing their mask in school every day
-
Reinforce with children to wear their own face mask only, no sharing or swapping. If possible have their name or initials on their mask
-
Have a bag or baggie in their backpack for a clean place to put their face mask when not wearing, or attach a lanyard to mask to help keep it clean and avoid losing it
-
Reinforce that when removing their mask, use side (ear) loops only so they are not touching cloth part of the mask, and their face.
-
When wearing face mask, always make sure it covers both nose and mouth
-
Wash face masks on a regular basis
-
If possible, pack a second “back up” face mask in the backpack in case their mask breaks or gets dirty
-
Continue expectations of health hygiene practices: cover cough/sneeze in elbow, regular handwashing and sanitizing
-
Practice social distancing with games, markings, etc to help children recognize 3-6 feet of social distancing
-
Sharing of items among students to be avoided
-
Reinforce ways to greet, etc in a non-contact way, from a distance, ie: air high fives, jazz hands, waving, thumbs up, peace sign, etc
-
Have your child wear or bring in their backpack an extra layer of clothing (sweater or sweatshirt) as temperatures in the classrooms will be cooler. Per health guidelines, classroom windows will be open for periods during the school day to promote healthy ventilation and air exchange

Students should bring their own refillable water bottle to school each day. *Students are not allowed to drink directly from the water fountains at this time
-
Class parties/events with close gathering of students and community/shared food will be avoided

Flu Immunization:
A yearly flu (influenza) vaccine is always strongly encouraged, but it is especially so this year during the Covid-19 pandemic. The most recent guidelines released by the CDC and NH Department of Health and Human Services encourages all residents over the age of 6 months to get a seasonal flu vaccination. Here are some flu and flu vaccine info/resources from the CDC:
Please send a doctor's note to the school nurse with the date of your child's flu immunization, so that this may be added to your child's school health record.

The STEAM Lab at the Bakie School has been so lucky this year to have been the recipient of Lego and Duplo donations from our community. If you discover that you have unloved building blocks of any kind, we will gladly use them here.
The community has also been generous about donating recyclable materials for the STEAM Lab. Our builders are so lucky to have these items at their disposal. Due to our limited space for storage, we will not be collecting any more recyclables at this time.
(cardboard tubes, boxes, newspapers etc.)

I am the director of Kingston Recreation and I have been working hard on getting engaging programming for area residents.
Kingston recreation has joined several other local recreation departments in promoting an on line gaming league where people in 2 age categories (8-13 and 13+) play against each other, and other NH communities in a safe environment. The league is called GG League and play is closely monitored by a referee during all games. Players can easily report any inappropriate on line behavior and they are only identified by their user name.
I am hoping you will let me advertise this exciting league on SRSD’s school newsletters.
