Bald Knob Cross Celebrated its 81st Annual Easter Sunrise Service, April 16th

Easter service Though the forecast called for Easter morning to be filled with clouds and rain, the dawn broke beautifully and the sunrise was absolutely awesome.

Approximately ten minutes into the service, the rays of sunshine broke through. Approximately 800 worshippers dotted the hillside to celebrate the risen Savior!

A huge thanks to everyone who came, and all those who helped make it possible.

The Observation Deck is Done!

The pictures tell it all!

The picture below with the sunset is the first sunset after the deck was completed.

Also pictured is the ramp leading up to the deck (right). It's a strong, beautiful observation deck, and it opens up a wide view across the Mississippi River and a broad horizon that has never had a good place to view from.

Come visit and check it out!

Eclipse Tickets are on Sale!!

Eclipse It's unusual for tickets to be sold at an event at Bald Knob Cross, and we understand that a few people question this decision. Please know that the main concern is safety for everyone, and the provision of a good experience viewing the solar eclipse. We are advised by solar eclipse experts that we must have a method to control the number of people who travel to Bald Knob that day, and advance ticket sales is the only effective control method.

Here's all the information on purchasing your tickets:  go to or 618-713-8516

Just a reminder, visitors can attend this event only with the advanced purchase of a ticket. This is necessary to manage the number of people and cars at the cross on that date, so all visitors will have a good experience.

Two different levels of tickets are available:
  1. Casual Eclipse Viewers: $50 for each ticket. This will include shuttle transportation to Bald Knob from Alto Pass area, plus T-shirt, eclipse glasses, water bottle, and other items still being determined.
  2. Serious Eclipse Viewers: $250 for each ticket.
This will include parking at the cross for your vehicle, so you can bring telescope, camera, and other equipment. This also includes all the items in the package, plus assistance to transport your equipment to your assigned area. Electricity will not be provided; please plan to bring battery pack if needed. A maximum of five (5) companion tickets may be purchased for $50 each with the purchase of a $250 ticket.

Volunteer Spotlight - Tenika Carter

Tenika Carter Tenika is a college student, majoring in Occupational Therapy Assistant, and she graduates in three weeks!! She volunteers two morning weekend shifts per month. The hours she gives help satisfy volunteer requirements for her college scholarship, but mostly Tenika just loves being at Bald Knob Cross, meeting the people, and giving back to the community.

Thanks, Tenika!
$1 for the Cross Annual Fundraiser

dollar for the cross Our annual fundraising mailing, $1 for the Cross, is still underway. This mailing goes to all the churches in the southern Illinois area, asking each church to designate a Sunday to take up a special offering for Bald Knob Cross, requesting each church participant to donate $1.00. This is a significant fundraiser for Bald Knob, and if your church doesn't participate, could you ask your pastor or stewardship Chairperson to consider being a part of this important offering for 2017?

We very much need the support of our churches, individuals, groups and visitors - every one is important. Thank you for any support you can give to encourage your church to participate!

If you did not receive the $1 for the Cross mailing or need additional information, contact Teresa at or 618-521-1917.
