Happenings at the Cross!
Easter Sunrise Service

Easter Sunrise Service 2016 was an amazing, outstanding, superb event!! We celebrated 80 years of sunrise services atop Bald Knob Mountain, and the morning proved to be cool and clear with a beautiful sunrise. We had over 1200 in attendance, and the spirit of God was alive and well as we celebrated Easter morning.

Easter Sunrise Service

If you've never attended a sunrise service, we hope you will make plans now to make 2017 your first time! Thanks to all who worked so hard to offer such a beautiful service.
Blessing of the Bikes 2016

Blessing of the bikes
T- shirts can be purchased at the Welcome Center at Bald Knob or at Black Diamond Harley in Marion or Waterkotte Harley-Davidson in Mount Vernon, IL.
Blessing of the Bikes is coming up very soon -- on April 24th --the 24th annual Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) event. Several thousand bikers are expected to make the trek up Bald Knob Mountain to give and receive God's blessing on their bikes, their ministry as part of CMA, and all the lives they touch because of both.

If you're a biker, or you just want to support the ministry of those who are CMA bikers, make plans now to attend. The event is come and go, and will start early and end when everyone is gone!

And if you'd like to volunteer to help in the kitchen, in the merchandise area, or just an extra pair of hands wherever needed, please email me at the address below; we can always use an extra worker!
Welcome to our New Caretaker

Jeff DePaolaOur new Caretaker, Jeff DePaola has moved into the apartment at the Welcome Center and is getting acclimated to his new environment.

Jeff brings a fresh, new perspective, great skills and experiences, and some exciting ideas for improvements at the cross.

If you haven't met Jeff yet, make plans soon to come to the Welcome Center to introduce yourself and offer Jeff a great southern Illinois welcome!
Online Donations

Making Donations is Easier
since we've added two new ways to help support Bald Knob Cross. One is the addition of two outside donation boxes, one located on the opposite side of the road across from the Welcome Center, and the other on one of the brick pillars by the road leading up to the cross.

online donations The other is an easy way to make a regular, ongoing donation. Bald Knob exists and is maintained solely from the support of the people -- and we need your help. For information on how to make even a $10 monthly contribution, visit this website page to set up a recurring, or one-time donation.
Crossflame Youth Choir

Crossflame Youth Choir will be performing at Bald Knob Cross on Friday, June 17th. This is approximately an 80 member traveling choir from Hickory, North Carolina, who will be stopping in southern Illinois on their way to Chicago for a summer performance. They will be staying at the dorms at SIU, doing some community service work in the area, and providing a concert for the southern Illinois community on the 17th, before heading on to Chicago.

Meet Some of Our Volunteers

Sandy Lanzi Sandy Lanzi, from Carbondale -- you can find at the Welcome Center most Saturdays, late morning and early afternoon. Sandy is a whiz on the checkout computer called "Clover;" she makes that little machine sing!! And you will typically find Sandy behind the cash register at most of our big crowd events -- her help during these busy times is priceless. Thanks, Sandy!!

Sally Moutardier Sally Moutardier, from Cobden, is our Welcome Center Coordinator. She keeps merchandise stocked, monitors and restocks kitchen inventory, assists with scheduling and recruiting new volunteers, and so many other tasks it's impossible to list them all. You will typically find Sally at the Welcome Center on Friday afternoons, but she pops in and out several other times during the week as well. She keeps us all organized and on track; thanks, Sally!!

Jennifer O_Donnell Jennifer O'Donnell, from Murphysboro, is the most talented "curve ball catcher" I know. Jennifer beautifully handles whatever is tossed her direction, whether she's been able to plan for it or not. Needless to say, she's a terrific person to call when we are "in a pinch." Jennifer runs the checkout counter, organizes merchandise, fixes technology issues, troubleshoots... whatever is needed. Thanks so much for your flexibility, Jennifer!!
Volunteering Blesses You the Most

Volunteering is a blessingVolunteers are needed to work a once-a-week or once-a-month rotation to greet guests at the Welcome Center. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and help visitors experience the best hospitality and inspiration that Bald Knob can offer. And working in the Welcome Center turns out to be a wonderful blessing to you - here's what these ladies have to say about their experience:
  • "Volunteering at Bald Knob is a blessing to me because I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life that come to visit the cross. It gives me, as a widow, an opportunity to get involved and be useful in a Christian setting." ~ Sandy Lanzi
  • "Volunteering at the cross is a gift I give myself. It brings joy to my world, and I'm able to pass it on to others." ~ Sally Moutardier
  • "When I volunteer at Bald Knob Cross, I am blessed by the stories I hear from people that helped raise the funds to build the cross many years ago, and by the looks on children's faces as they are excited by the magnitude of its size... just like the love of our Lord and Savior."  ~ Jennifer O'Donnell
