Happenings at the Cross!
Easter Sunrise Service
sunrise service Plans are complete for Easter Sunrise Service, March 27th, 6:30 p.m.

If you've never attended, make plans this year to make it your first experience -- you will be so glad you did!! Often we get the question about how difficult parking is -- and we want to let you know that parking is not difficult at all. We have volunteers with lighted wands who will direct you to the top of the hill and guide you to parking that's lined up on the sloping hillside. When you exit, you do not have to back up within congestion, you simply leave through a different exit that will be in front of you. So parking is easy -- come on up!!

Here's the details for Easter sunrise service:
  • bagpipes at the Easter Sunrise serviceOpening - Paul Thompson on the bagpipes
  • Sunrise Bell - Roger Gibson, Former Caretaker
  • Greeting - Michelle Sirles, Union Co. Board Member
  • Soloist - Annette Bingaman
  • Message - Rev. Larry Gilbert, Pastor, Murphysboro United Methodist Church

We hope you will join us -- you will be blessed!

Welcome to our New Caretaker
We are pleased to announce that a new Caretaker will be arriving soon at Bald Knob Cross. Jeff DePaola will be relocating to southern Illinois from Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Jeff DePaolaJeff recently spent four days at Bald Knob, and exploring the surrounding area, and already agrees that southern Illinois is a place to fall in love with. Jeff is 57 years old, retired from Delta Airlines, and loves nature and being far away from interstates and big cities. He enjoys solitude but also loves to meet people, especially when it's in a very positive environment, such as Bald Knob Cross. Jeff loves to hike in the Appalachian Mountains where he currently lives, and he looks forward to finding the great hiking trails of southern Illinois. He grew up in the Chicago, Illinois suburbs, and received a Marketing degree from Kennesaw State University in 1988. Jeff also holds a real estate license, and currently sells real estate part-time in semi-retirement.

Jeff has shared that he feels Bald Knob Cross is a symbol for peace individually and as a collective whole and would attract people of all faiths and backgrounds. Jeff will be here for Easter weekend, to experience and assist with Sunrise Service, then will plan to move in completely by the second week of April.

Make plans to take a trip to Bald Knob soon to meet Jeff and make him feel welcome!!
