Happenings at the Cross!
October 8, 2016 - Fall Colors at the Cross

fall colors at the cross October 8th was our Fall Colors at the Cross event, and it was a great day! Mother Nature did not provide much changing of the colors yet on that day, but there was great food, fun, fellowship and music, and about 500 people came out to enjoy the beauty of the day.

A huge thanks to all our volunteers!
October 16, 2016 - Dessert & Coffee at the Cross

dessert and coffee Many amazing desserts lined the kitchen counter at the Welcome Center as we gathered for Dessert & Coffee on Sunday, October 16th, and enjoyed at least a few fall colors that are beginning to appear. We estimated about 200 people came to enjoy the beautiful fall afternoon.  We have some amazing cooks in southern Illinois! Thanks to everyone who helped.
Allen Lindsay New Groundskeeper

Allen Lindsay Please welcome Allen Lindsay from Alto Pass as our new Groundskeeper at Bald Knob Cross of Peace. The Board of Directors has changed the scope of this position, and Allen will be focusing most of his time on the upkeep of the grounds outside, as well as the upkeep of the Welcome Center. Allen's responsibilities for the hosting of the Welcome Center will be very limited, as we have a wonderful volunteer crew that provides hosting for our visitors.

Allen is a native of Alto Pass, and grew up "in the shadow of the cross," and has a lifelong love for Bald Knob. As you can see, he's a Cubs fan -- some of us celebrate that, and some of us tolerate that -- but we are delighted to have Allen on board!
Volunteer Recognition

The Board of Directors took the opportunity to formally recognize and express their appreciation to the volunteers who contribute so significantly to the work at Bald Knob Cross. On October 18th, the board members and volunteers gathered in the midst of balloons, cake, punch, light snacks and a great spirit of fellowship to celebrate and appreciate the work of all our volunteers. Each volunteer was presented with the opportunity to reserve a Bald Knob Volunteer polo shirt, and given a Bald Knob travel cup filled with goodies. I can confidently say "a good time was had by all." Thanks again to all volunteers!
Eclipse Planning

eclipseThe Eclipse Planning team is well underway, and more information on ticket prices and packages will be available soon. The most important thing to know is that viewing the eclipse at Bald Knob Cross will be possible only by purchasing a ticket in advance, and on the day of the event, only ticketholders will be able to come to Bald Knob. This is very different than our usual mode of operation, but this will be essential to handling the expected crowd for this event. So if you are interested in viewing the eclipse from Bald Knob, or know someone that is, please watch our newsletter and website for more information.

History Corner Update

The actual visible work has begun for the History Corner! The wall is now painted and ready to receive the text panels when they are completed. In the near future, the vinyl letters will go up that will create the title for the history section, and the text panels will be completed. Stay tuned!
Plan Your Meeting at the Cross

meetingDo you hold regular team meetings, planning meetings or community meetings? Would you like to have a change of scenery and have your meeting off-site occasionally?

You can schedule with us to do this at any time, but especially during the low-visitor months, for a donation to Bald Knob Cross, you can host your meeting in our Welcome Center, at the end of the building with the best view, overlooking the south landscape. We can set up tables for you, and you can bring in your own refreshments. Just let us know well in advance of your meeting so we can arrange adequate set-up and volunteers for hosting.

Contact Teresa at or 618-521-1917 if you'd like to bring your group to Bald Knob for their next meeting.

Most Current Needs

We have received word of a possible donation toward the cost to purchase a bush hog, but will need some additional donations to complete the purchase. If you know someone willing to help with providing a bush hog for Bald Knob, please let us know.

Water: While not 'glamorous and tangible,' our greatest need at Bald Knob continues to be to upgrade our water system. We are pursuing some new options and we ask that you keep this endeavor in your prayers, and would greatly appreciate any financial support possible. The water system will have to be upgraded soon in order to be able to continue hosting events of any significant size.
