Baldwin Flip Florida Blue Team
Couples with Harris Campaign in Pensacola
| |
“You are officially a part of the Florida Harris-Walz Team!”
That’s what Alicia Trawick, canvassing Captain for the Pensacola Harris for President team, told Baldwin Democrats on the first of many joint door knocking-ventures with the Florida Harris Campaign unfolding this month. The Baldwin County Democrats Flip Florida Blue Team last Sunday joined volunteers who came all the way from Louisiana to work to overcome the mere one or two point gap between Trump and Harris in latest polls.
“With the polls so close now, all eyes are on the Panhandle to hand a defeat to Donald Trump in his home state of Florida,” said Dianne Krumel, Field Organizer for the Harris Campaign.

Baldwin County Democrats are taking the lead in heading up the Alabama Blue Tour this coming Sunday Oct. 13. This event, sponsored by United Democratic Clubs of Alabama, is a statewide effort to bring volunteers from across Alabama to work ground games in nearby swing states - places where we can make the most impact to see that Donald Trump does not get another term in the White House. The United Democratic Clubs of Alabama (UDCAL) is a working group of Democratic clubs, committees, and organizers from all over the state to collaborate, share resources and take action.
On Oct. 13, Democrats in northern and central Alabama are fielding teams to work in Georgia while Democrats in our western Gulf region will gather at Harris Campaign HQ in Pensacola for a fun rally featuring speakers, music from Kamala's playlist and a light lunch before settling in for training and heading out to the neighborhoods.
“Regionally, this will be the must-go event of the 2024 election cycle,” said Robyn Monaghan, Baldwin County Democrats Executive Chair.

Eastern Shore canvassing teams that have been out meeting Democratic voters in Fairhope and Daphne will be suspending operations in Baldwin County to begin working with the Harris Florida campaign. South Baldwin Democrats have been canvassing for Harris in Pensacola for the past two weekends.
“It’s been a wonderful opportunity to meet our neighbors, let them know that, yes, there are Democrats in Baldwin County and urge them to get to the polls,” said Denise D'Oliveira, Chairperson of Eastern Shore Democrats.
Mobile County Democrats, Escambia County Democrats, Blue Wave and OneMobile, are among area organizations sending volunteers to work with the Harris Campaign this Sunday.
"We're gonna rally, train, and hit the streets to win this thing!' Krumel said.
The Baldwin County Democrats Flip Florida Blue Team will be canvassing in conjunction with the Florida Harris-Walz every Sunday until Election Day.

Standing with our Sisters
in the Historic Fight for Reproductive Rights
| |
|
If Florida can meet the 60 percent high bar needed to pass Amendment 4, that means Alabama women won't have to travel so far to find the reproductive healthcare they need.
| | | |
Our next-door neighbor Pensacola has a grisly chapter in the history of reproductive rights. Two local doctors died in the service of providing medical services to women.
The film screening of “Pensacola’s Struggle for Abortion Rights, a short Documentary," tells the story of Unitarian church members who put their bodies on the line in the movement to protect women’s right to seek reproductive healthcare and to fight against religious fundamentalist efforts to stop women from exercising their rights to seek a legal abortion.
Three decades ago, in 1993 and 1994, religious fundamentalists shot and killed two doctors in Pensacola. The film chronicles the murder of Drs. Britton and Gunn, along with the clinic escort James Barrett. The Unitarian Church actively recruited clinic escorts before and after the 1993 and 1994 murders until Ladies Clinic was ultimately firebombed and burned down by a religious fundamentalist in 2012.
The day after the screening and discussion, volunteers will head to Pensacola to canvass with the Yes on 4 campaign to help get the 60 percent majority needed to pass the state amendment that will guarantee reproductive health to Florida women and, at the same time deliver a close haven for Alabama women in need of medical care.

South Baldwin
Dem's Social
By Pam Skaggs, South Baldwin Democrats Chairperson
The South Baldwin Democrat Club would like to thank all that attended our social Tuesday night. We had a record-breaking crowd. Ninety-six of our members came out in support of our club and the Democratic Party.
| |
|
We had a lot of new members and would have loved to have introduced each of them, but there were so many we just didn't have time! So, a "warm welcome" to each of you and hope to see you again.
We have trouble finding a place big enough and one that will have us. Cosumel was very excited that we were there. The staff worked hard to take care of us and if you did not receive your food or were not satisfied, please forgive them as they were doing their best. We had quite a large crowd.
At our social we gave away buttons, bumper stickers and sold almost all of our yard signs and bags. We have a very few left, so if you are still wanting one, please
respond ASAP. They could just be a keep's sake some day.
| |
Please watch for our emails as we are planning a watch party for elections night, and we are having our annual Holiday Social at Lulu's in December.
Better together,
Pam Skaggs
Chair, SBD
P.S. A special thanks to all the Board members that helped Tuesday night, Joan Hill, John Bednarczyk, Darlene Fero and Melinda Petterson.
