Committed to Memories
Going All Out

DeWitt Jones, who spent two decades taking pictures all over the world for National Geographic, was on a continual search for the perfect photograph. Jones looked for the often-hidden essence of subjects, natural and human. Through his photography, Jones invites us to go the extra step from a good perspective to a great perspective and challenges us to see possibilities.a1

Although student photographers don't have Jones' years of experience, many are open to the possibilities of their subject matter.

When assessing commitment to going the extra step, give staff members/photographers the following multiple choice question:

When asked to commit to a project, how do you respond?
a. I cop out
b. I drop out
c. I hold out
d. I sell out
e. I go all out.

You know which students you need on your 2012-13 staff. Go all out and get them!

Spring Forward

BAL4.TV Spring Sports BAL4.tv Solves Spring Sports Coverage Dilemma
Challenge: Spring delivery books' final deadlines are during pre-season training & scrimmages. The solutions include either publishing a spring supplement or creating March-March coverage. Both have drawbacks.
The problem is solved with BAL4.TV QR codes. It allows your staff to include the entire spring sports season in the current year's book.a3

In the months following the final deadline, have staff members concentrate on shooting highlights of the season, players' profiles, fan support, etc.

Extra Yearbooks
Target Nonbuyers
Have some extra books to sell? Create a plan and a sense of urgency.
* Check all buyers against your

student body list.

*  If a senior has not purchased a book,

call his/her home.

* If a freshman has not purchased a book

call his/her home.a4

* Ask non-buyers what has kept them from buying. Make sure they know how many times they are covered in the book.

PARTEE! PARTEE! PARTEE!
a5Distribution Day
So, why not celebrate? Plan a distribution or signing party after the book is finaled. Whether your book delivers in the spring, summer, or fall, the distribution party is a great way to promote the yearbook program.

Step 1
- Reserve the cafeteria or gymnasium for the day following the delivery of the book.

Step 2
- Organize the room with pickup stations, sales stations and food stations.

Step 3
- Plan decorations based on the theme of the yearbook.

Step 4
- Plan food to be served. Estimate how much soda, pizza, chips and candy will be consumed.

Step 5
- As students enter the party, they will pay $3.00. For the price of admission, they will be given two tickets to exchange for food. If they want to purchase more, offer pizza and sodas for $1.00 and chips and candy for $.50.

Step 6
- Give students a pen to sign books. Instead of grabbing their book and a quick dinner, they may hang around and sign books. A local insurance company, car dealership, tux shop may provide pens for the advertising opportunity
.

Step 7
- Feature a student band or provide recorded
music over a good system. Make sure that one student's musical taste does not prevail. Although Jennifer may love JayZ, not everyone will share her opinion. Select a good mix of songs that have a wide appeal. Nothing will drive students away like bad music.

Step 8
- Sell autograph sections and protective plastic covers at one station.

Step 9
- Sell yearbooks at a separate station.

Step 10
- Begin the party at 4:00 p.m. FOR SENIORS ONLY. At 5:00 p.m. open the party to the rest of the school.
