Our Ballard
The dynamic duo of Sustainable Ballard and Ballard Alliance is at it again with another Get Plugged Into Ballard event on September 19th from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Lucky Envelope Brewing

Get Plugged Into Ballard is a community social where residents, business owners, employees in Ballard can get connected with local non-profits. Each event aims to introduce a new group of organizations doing great things in the Ballard area.

One of the most frequent questions the Ballard Alliance receives from our neighbors is: "how do I become more involved and connected in the community?" Get Plugged Into Ballard community social seeks to provide options for folks interested in plugging into what is happening in our neighborhood and learn about ways they can make a difference.

This event is made possible through sponsorship by our outstanding community partners: Lucky Envelope Brewing, Grove and Kane, Verity Credit Union, New Seasons Market and Kavu.

T ake this opportunity to learn more about the work our featured non-profits do in our community and meet your neighbors and local businesses. The first 100 guests will receive a complementary beverage.
Our featured non-profit organizations at this event are REACH - Evergreen Treatment Services, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Seattle Public Library - Ballard Branch, Seattle Public Utilities Adopt-a-Street program, Ballard NW Senior Center, Sustainable Ballard and Ballard Alliance/Visit Ballard.

Don't like to show up to a party empty handed? The Ballard Alliance and REACH are holding a toiletry drive during the event to help our homeless population as we head into fall and winter.  Our  Mental Health and Homeless Outreach Case Manager, Paige Killinger will distribute these items to her clients while also connecting them to the services they need.

Items requested are as follows: Hand warmers/feet warmers, Protein bars/cereal bars, Tube socks, Hand sanitizer/moist towelettes, men's and women's undergarments, sleeping bags, travel-size toiletries, dry shampoo, lice kits, first aid kits and bottled water. It is not a requirement to bring an item to attend this event. We have received a number of requests to help support the work that the Ballard Alliance and Reach are doing and this will help assist Paige in the work she does each day connecting with clients. If you plan on attending please let us know by clicking on the "going" button on our Facebook event page and by all means feel free to share this event with your network.

 CALLING ALL ADVENTURERS aaa3
The American Parkinson Disease Association, Northwest Chapter is rounding up teams and individuals to participate in this years ADPA Adventure Race in Ballard. BALLARD ALLIANCE HELPS UPDATE PARKING SIGNAGE AND WAYFINDING IN BALLARD aaa4

The Ballard Alliance has many roles to address the many needs of the neighborhood and advocacy, transportation and urban development are areas we are increasingly focused on. As the neighborhood grows as an urban microcosm of the ever expanding Seattle, the Alliance is ensuring our neighborhood is at the forefront of transportation issues and projects. One recent project was the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) wanting to update its current parking information throughout the city.

The Ballard Alliance has worked to identify  all public off-street parking options, all directional parking signs and bike parking in the Ballard Improvement Area (BIA) and has mapped those locations and integrated parking data to VisitBallard.com.  This information is located on our "Get Here" page, which can be accesses through one of the top navigation links on our homepage or by going to  www.visitballard.com/get-here .
Additionally, after identifying the directional parking signage throughout the BIA, the Alliance was able to recommend alternate locations for signs, identify new locations for signs and fine-tune the sign placement process with SDOT. The end result of this project is to ensure our neighborhood is accessible to our resident's and businesses' visitors and provide a tool that others can share. As members of the Ballard Alliance, you are welcome to share the link to the GET HERE page to help guide your guests to the neighborhood. There is detailed car parking, bike parking and alternative transportation information on the site.

This is a pivotal year in terms of transportation issues that affect our neighborhood and a considerable amount of our time is invested in ensuring Ballard has a strong voice in the Sound Transit light rail project. Our goal is to protect the vitality, safety, functionality and aesthetics of our business and residential core with our input to planners and decision makers. You are welcome to share your input and learn more at the next Sound Transit Community Workshop on Monday, September 17th from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. The meeting workshop will be held at the Ballard Eagleson VFW Post 3063 located at 2812 NW Market Street.
ONE FOR OBEC BREWING  aaa5

Obec Brewing's slogan is "Building Community Around Beer" and that is just what they have been doing for the past year. Owners, Stacy and Wayne Jehlik have been sharing their gratitude for the support their neighboring breweries have given them during the week leading up to the main celebration on August 25th.

The Ballard Brewery enclave of our neighborhood is unique, not only for the close proximity of many great breweries to one another, but their level of support, camaraderie and collaboration within the community.  Ballard is lucky to have so many great brewery options but more importantly we are grateful to the many community -minded brewery and tap room owners.

From everyone at the Ballard Alliance, congratulations Obec Brewing on your 1st "Beer-iversary"! We look forward to watching you grow in year two. Obec Brewing has a variety of events and beer releases surrounding their first Beer-iversery. To learn more, Czech (couldn't resist) out their facebook page or website

Due to weather conditions and in the best interest of participants and their pets, we had to make the decision to postpone the Dogs of Ballard Dog Show

We are monitoring the situation, working with the City to get re-permitted and coordinate with our community partners to reschedule this event. Please be sure to follow our social media pages @visitballard to stay informed about the new date.

If you have registered your dog  as a contestant for the August 21st event, you will be guaranteed participation on the rescheduled date. We look forward to producing a fun event in the Ballard Commons Park soon. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us directly at [email protected].
