VB1 NEW NORDIC MUSEUM RECEIVES GIFT FROM THE BALLARD ALLIANCE

It seems to be all everyone is talking about in Ballard, the Grand Opening of the Nordic Museum, and rightfully so! This much anticipated event exemplifies our neighborhood through culture, hard work, and a dedicated and supportive community.

There is no doubt the museum, which has already received some prestigious recognition nationally and internationally, will become a new landmark destination and draw visitors to the Ballard area for years to come.

The Ballard Alliance is pleased to announce a matching donation to the Nordic Museum for $12,500. Our goal is to leverage this amount to garner a total of $25,000 in contributions to the museum.

"Any growing organization would be pleased to have partners in their corner, but we are particularly fortunate to have the Ballard community, businesses, and the Ballard Alliance cheering us on. This gift reflects the Alliance's commitment and support and couldn't have come at a better time," said Eric Nelson Nordic Museum Chief Executive Officer.

We are encouraging Ballard business owners to take part in the success and attention the museum will bring the neighborhood and consider making a matching donation to the Nordic Museum.

The Ballard Alliance is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization partially funded through BIA assessments. About half of our annual operating revenue is garnered through the improvement area. The remainder of our revenue to operate and work for our neighborhood comes from fundraising events, such as the Ballard SeafoodFest.
We are fortunate that the Ballard SeafoodFest has been successful and, as such, the Ballard Alliance is able to share its success to help the museum - a shining gem of our neighborhood.

Here's How you Can Help - Match our Pledge and Support the Museum!

Please consider making a matching donation, in whatever amount you can offer, so that we can all invest in this new community space.  If you are interested in making a matching contribution, please contact Museum Deputy Director External Affairs, Jan Colbrese at 206-789-2222 extension 7039  and let her know you would like to help match the Ballard Alliance's donation.

Upcoming Events

In nine days, the new Nordic Museum will have its Grand Opening and you are invited to join them at the ribbon cutting ceremony  on May 5th at noon. Please note that the ribbon cutting and events on the grounds and in the Great Hall are free and open to the public, however, the exhibitions require  timed ticketing , which is at no cost to museum members but all must reserve a timed entrance to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for the attendees.

There are many other events in celebration of the Grand Opening week and you can view them on the Museum's event calendar.
Also, be prepared to welcome many visitors from around the world who will be attending the Grand Opening celebrations and events in the next couple of weeks and give them a big Ballard  Velkommen/ Välkommen/ Velkommen/ Tervetuloa/ Velkominn !
VB2A GRAND MONTH OF MAY FOR BALLARD
Ballard gets pretty popular around the middle of May for Syttende Mai celebrations but there are a number of things to celebrate in May this year. Notably, we have many grand opening celebrations planned as new businesses plant, or in some cases, replant their flags in our beloved corner of Seattle. Here are a few to be on the look out for!

The Ballard Alliance in encouraging Ballard business owners and residents to attend the upcoming North Seattle Town Hall hosted by Councilmembers O'Brien, Gonzalez and Mosqueda.

Councilmembers will present their proposal for a new progressive tax on business
which is expected to generate ~$75 million annually via a new tax on employment to address homelessness and housing affordability. At stake is not only the tax itself but the city's plan for spending the new revenue as well as the city's rate of success with existing funding for services.

Please take the time to attend, as it is important for your elected officials to understand your perspectives on this topic.
