Our Ballard

It began on a perfect summer evening, droves of residents and visitors flocked to the heart of Ballard to enjoy the neighborhood in a way that only happens once a year. The heart of the neighborhood was thumping and alive with the Nite Wave beat and dancing feet. At the epicenter of the Ballard SeafoodFest Friday night kickoff party was the Beer and Cocktail Garden. Thirsty Ballardites filled the garden, which took over the entire northern footprint of Ballard Avenue, and enjoyed local craft brews and beverages.

The fun continued with the festival in full swing on Saturday, where more than one hundred food and arts & crafts vendors shared their creations. There were crab legs cracking at the Crab Shack Lounge, Trident Seafoods salmon smoking, Ballard brews flowing, cocktails clanking, lutefisk loving, shredding in the Festi-bowl, babies bouncing, bubbles blowing and sing-your-heart-out good times on the Gravity Payments MainStage all Ballard SeafoodFest weekend long.

While describing this year's event, Max Genereaux, Ballard Alliance Board Member, Beer Garden Producer and owner of Hattie's Hat and Sunset Tavern, said: "It was incredible to see so many people everywhere enjoying themselves with great music, drinks and food. That is why we do it every year so people can come together in the neighborhood and have an awesome experience. We really appreciate the support from our sponsors, who really step up and make this event better each year."

How did we pull off another spectacular event? Through the generous contributions from our fabulous sponsors and dedicated volunteers. People always ask us how to get more involved in the Ballard community and this event is a great way to meet a lot of people, have fun and become a part of a special 44 year old tradition in our neighborhood.

On behalf of the Ballard Alliance staff, Board of Directors and the entire neighborhood, THANK YOU to all our 2018 sponsors and volunteers. It is because of you that the Ballard Alliance is able to continue to create and maintain projects and programs that create a better Ballard all year round!

BALLARD SIDEWALK SALE AUGUST 9th - 12th sidewalk

Art is on display every day in these two featured Ballard ArtWalk participating businesses: Venue and Tides & Pines.

Venue at its core breathes art onto the streets of Ballard every day. Owner Diane Macrae is passionate about creating a space that not only showcases one-of-a-kind local artists but supports the artist community in Seattle. Artists can rent a work space inside the shop or office spaces with flexible options.

Macrae's place is an inspiration and one of the best spots to find gifts and quality mementos from Seattle/Pacific Northwest. It is a great place to relax and explore with out of town guests or sneak away on a long lunch break. Venue also has an online store that is stocked with some very cute and unique items.

Another one-of-a-kind option awaits you next door at Tides & Pines. The entire store is a neat work of art. Each display and  color is thoughtfully put in its place - its clean organization and generous array of organic materials provide an earthy eye candy. No matter where you stand in their store, it i s as though you could take a perfectly composed shot through a camera lens. Which makes sense,  since one of the owners, Jordan Voth is a professional photographer.

Tides & Pines also offers an online store with great clothing and products for men, women, and the home.

We are lucky to have these  great shops in our neighborhood and for their partic ipation in the Ballard ArtWalk. We have another great Ballard ArtWalk in the works for you on August 11th from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

VENUE |  5408 22nd Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107

What have you be doing to stay cool this week? Here are a few ideas: hide under the shade of a tree in the beautiful Chittenden Locks gardens, take a stroll along the waterfront at Shilshole Bay Marina and end with a swim at Golden Gardens beach, or keep the mini-Ballardites refreshed with a splish/splash through the fountains at Ballard Commons Park.

As always, there are a plethora of cold treats offered at our dessert, ice cream and gelato shops and award-winning cold craft brews and beverages throughout the neighborhood!

How are you staying cool in Ballard? Share your photo with us @visitballard and tag a local business or place.
