Balloon Fiesta Insider

One of the topics we get the most questions about is getting to Balloon Fiesta Park. One of those methods is the Fiesta Express Park & Ride. We're working on some exciting changes that will make your Park & Ride experience more efficient:
  • Park & Ride ticket sales will only be available for purchase online to help increase the efficiency of lines and bus loading times.
  • The Park & Ride lots at Cottonwood and Coronado Malls have been reorganized to incorporate more buses and faster loading times.
  • Park & Ride check-in times have been sorted into two waves, 4:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. for morning sessions and 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. for evening sessions.
  • Park & Ride loading areas at Balloon Fiesta Park are being expanded to two areas instead of one to allow more buses to be loaded at one time.

June in Ballooning

On June 11, 1897, Swedish engineer Salomon Andree took flight in his balloon the Ornen, as he attempted to successfully reach the North Pole. At this time, no one had successfully ventured to the North Pole. With a goal of using his gas balloon to fly over this location, he took off with a crew that included Nils Strindberg and Knut Fraenkel. Unfortunately, this attempt was unsuccessful.
