THE BALLOTS DETERMINE BILLS


You heard me describe 152nd Session of the General Assembly as unprecedented. It was characterized by a high volume of bills, accelerated decision-making, and significant policy shifts. ​The General Assembly introduced 438 bills between January 9 and June 30 (this count includes 84 substitutes). Twenty-four of those bills were pre-filed in December before session began. 


The makeup of the General Assembly will be determined this fall, especially in the primaries this September 10. Read more >

Today I’m across the Delaware River in New Jersey attending the Council of State Manufacturing Associations' conference where workforce is, again, a very hot topic. As we witness a steady growth in manufacturing here in Delaware and elsewhere, we’re challenged by state and national demographics. We’ve witnessed 25 years of declining birth rates in the U.S. and the long term trends are not very encouraging. Site selectors prefer geographies with an age population under 50 years old because the investment it takes to stand up manufacturing facilities is substantial. Read more >
