UnBagged Lunch Program

Light House

Date/Time: Only volunteers who have registered through Sign-up Genius to drop off meals will be allowed on site. Please drop your lunches off at The Light House by 6 p.m. the day before you are scheduled. Items can be delivered between 9 a.m.–6 p.m.

Location: 10 Hudson Street, Annapolis. Please park in our parking lot. We ask that all donations of food or supplies be brought to the front desk. Please ring the doorbell at the main door connected to the parking lot, and staff will speak through the intercom and buzz the donor into the lobby.

Ages: Everyone can help.

Time Commitment: Varies.

The mission of The Light House is to rebuild lives with compassion by providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and empower people as they transition toward employment, housing, and self-sufficiency. Your family can help residents and community clients of The Light House by preparing and delivering unbagged lunches. Please note that The Light House does not serve lunches in brown paper bags and asks that volunteers do not pack sides, water, and sandwiches together. Sandwiches should be assembled offsite and wrapped in individual sandwich bags. WHY UNBAGGED? We strive to provide every person with the dignity of choice, which means allowing individuals to choose food items for themselves or their families. Offering our community the ability to choose promotes empowerment and also limits food waste. PLEASE NOTE: All forms that require a signature must be submitted by email to the Volunteer Office for signature (volunteers@annapolislighthouse.org). Volunteer Office signature will be provided upon completion of volunteer service and completion of the Student Impact Reflection Form. Staff onsite at Light House will not sign service hour verification.

Sandwich Guidelines. Individual sandwiched bag-wrapped sandwiches should include a mix of at least two of the following sandwich types:

  • Turkey and cheese, beef and cheese, ham and cheese, or bologna and cheese.
  • Please use sliced lunch meat and any variety of deli-style sliced cheese.
  • Please do not include any other ingredients such as condiments, lettuce, tomato, etc.
  • Please do not use loaf ends.
  • Condiment packets are welcome.
  • No peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at this time.

Healthy Snack Items. Please select two. Snacks should be factory-wrapped and sealed.

  • Fresh fruit (bananas or oranges).
  • Dried fruit.
  • Nuts or trail mix.
  • Sandwich crackers
  • Granola/snack bars.
  • Fruit cups or applesauce.
  • Single serve desserts (cookies, Rice Krispie treats, etc.)
  • Single serve chip bags.

Please also provide individual water bottles still in the case.

Soldiers’ Angels Valentines for Veterans

2895 NE Loop 410, Suite 107

San Antonio, Texas 78218

Ages: Everyone is welcome to participate

Time Commitment: Varies

Holidays like Valentine's Day are fun to celebrate when you can share the day with your friends or loved ones. Unfortunately, our military heroes often find themselves alone or feeling homesick during holidays. The mission of Soldiers' Angels is to make sure no one who serves this country feels unloved - and that's especially true on Valentine's Day! You and your family can help by making or purchasing Valentines cards for our military and veteran heroes. Why do we ask for the $1 per card? The $1 helps cover the cost to distribute the thousands of cards we receive. Have questions? Check out our FAQs here.

  • Feel free to purchase or make your Valentines.
  • Our heroes love hearing from children. Making Valentines is a good activity to do with the kids one afternoon.
  • Be sure to write a note of encouragement or thanks on your cards.
  • Individually wrapped candy can be included if it is attached to the card.
  • You can include the envelope if you want, but it is not necessary. If you include an envelope, do not seal it.
  • Include $1 per card, cash or check.
  • Don't be afraid to sign your name! You are welcome to include your return address in the event the recipient may write back to you. However, it is also okay if you do not include any personal information.
  • If you would like a donation receipt mailed to you, make sure to include your name and mailing address somewhere on or in the box, otherwise we will not know where it came from!

Make Cards

Cards for Hospitalized Kids (CFHK)

Location: Mail cards to:

Cards for Hospitalized Kids

7290 W. Devon

Chicago, IL 60631

Ages: Everyone can participate.

Time Commitment: Varies.

Cards for Hospitalized Kids is an internationally recognized charitable organization that spreads hope, joy, and magic to hospitalized kids across America through uplifting, handmade cards. Your family can help by making cards. Here are some guidelines for creating your cards:

  • The only supplies you need are paper and a writing utensil, such as crayons, markers, etc. You may use other supplies such as stickers and glue-on craft decals, but please do not use any supplies, like glitter, that might fall off of your cards.
  • Do not address the card to a specific child, as we don't know the name of the child yet. At the request of hospitals, we ask that you do not write "get well", "feel better" or other illness-related comments. Include uplifting messages in your cards. Click here for suggestions.
  • Do not write any religious comments such as "God bless" or "I'm praying for you."
  • Sign your cards with your first name only. Do not include any personal information, such as phone number, address, email address, etc.
