Band Parents Meeting This Tuesday, Jan. 14

St. Olaf Band Performing February 3 in Barnum Hall
The St. Olaf Band (which includes Samohi alum Natalie DiMundo!) will perform at Samohi's Barnum Hall on Monday, February 3, at 7 p.m. as part of its 2020 winter tour. The Samohi Wind Ensemble is also planning to play a piece during the show.
Tickets are $10 general admission and free for all students; they're available at https://wp.stolaf.edu/tickets/ or 800-363-5487.

Founded in 1891, the St. Olaf Band performs the very best compositions and transcriptions for symphonic band, producing an exciting, crowd-pleasing style, and was dubbed “one of America’s preeminent bands” by The New Yorker.

Join us for a wonderful Friday night with our Samohi Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Symphonic Winds in Barnum Hall. Come at 5:30 to grab a bite at the Concert Cafe with other band families. Then find your reserved seat for the show, which starts at 6:30. We will also keep the cafe open after the concert for late-comers and those who want to grab some dessert while they wait for their musician!

Note: Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, the Viking Marching Band is not going to be able to perform in the Winter Concert this year.

Everyone who has already ordered tickets for the Winter Concert will soon receive an email from Brown Paper Tickets with instructions on applying for a refund, if you choose to do so. We're sorry for any inconvenience.
BANDS AT THE BROAD
Bands at the Broad Tickets Go on Sale January 20
Save the Date: February 11, 2020 | 6 pm | Broad Stage

Featuring the Samohi Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble under the direction of Kevin McKeown, the 8th annual Bands at the Broad benefit concert is excited this year to welcome the Lincoln Middle School Wind Symphony for a special send-off performance before they head to the All-State conference February 20 in Fresno.

All three groups will be tackling challenging and rewarding repertoire, culminating in a performance of Tchaikovsky's iconic "1812 Overture" in honor of the 140th anniversary of the piece's premiere.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $5 for students; they go on sale Monday, January 20, at 8 am at bandsatthebroad.com. Ads and dedications can be purchased now through January 29 at the sa me link.

Providing Enrichment Through Music and Cultural Exchange
As the primary fundraiser for the Samohi Concert Band touring program, Bands at the Broad needs the support of every band family. This year, the Wind Symphony will be traveling to San Francisco and Sonoma State University, where they will play in a prestigious invitational festival for top high school bands and orchestras. Last year, the Wind Ensemble made its first-ever trip abroad, touring and performing in Rome, Italy.
Money raised through Bands at the Broad helps fund scholarships for students whose families may not be able to afford such an opportunity.

PIT ORCHESTRA
Mandatory Parent Meeting for Spring Musical Pit Orchestra Next Tuesday, January 21
Once again, Samohi musicians and thespians are coming together this spring to put on a theatrical extravaganza: The Addams Family musical!  
Please join us for a MANDATORY parent meeting on Tuesday January 21, 2020 from 6:30-7:30 in the band room to ensure your child is enrolled and receives their four (4) class credits.
 

All updates and changes will be posted to the student-only "Addams Family Pit Orchestra 2019-2020" Facebook page. At the meeting, you will get a code to begin receiving text messages through the Remind app.
