Santa Monica College Concerto Competition
Apply today to the
SMC Concerto Competition. To be eligible, your student must be in high school (grades 9–12) and age 18 or under as of January 1, 2019.

NAfME All-National Honor Band
Students who were selected for All-State honor groups may apply for NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles. Eligible students have qualified for their state-level honor ensemble program and will compete against top students for a spot in these national honor ensembles.

Stairway of the Stars
The
Samohi Wind Ensemble and
Jazz Band 1 will perform on Wednesday, March 27, at the 70th annual "Stairway of the Stars" Band Night. Choir Night is Monday, March 18, and Orchestra Night is Friday, March 22. Ticket sales for all Stairway concerts will open at
7 am on Monday, February 25. There is RESERVED SEATING at all three concerts. Purchase your tickets early for best selection. Visit

SMC Wind Ensemble
If you are interested in joining a college ensemble, the SMC Wind Ensemble (Kevin McKeown, Conductor) has begun. For more information about the group, which meets on Wednesday evenings, please reach out to Mr. McKeown, either in person or
via email. College credit is available, and it's also a great addition to any brag sheet!

This Week's Schedule
We're entering the
Tech Weeks! This week and next, there will be practice every day after school to prepare for the opening of "Side Show."
Tuesday: 4:15 - 6 pm
Wednesday: 4:15 - 9 pm
Thursday: 4:15 - 9 pm
Friday: 4:15 - 9:30 pm
Please note: For the next two weeks,
all Symphony and Philharmonic musicians are officially excused from their Tuesday and Wednesday practices so they can participate fully in our tech rehearsals! These absences have been cleared with Ms. Swenson, Mr. Aiello, and the administration. If you choose to opt out of a tech dinner to attend an hour of your Phil or Symphony practice, please know that we cannot save food for you, and we cannot refund any money. If you have any concerns, please talk to Mr Sakow.
Other Notes
- Sign up here to bring snacks to Pit Orchestra rehearsals and to help serve dinner this Friday, Feb. 22, and Thursday, Feb. 28.
- T-shirts will be distributed on Friday, February 22.

Just $2,000 Short of Our Fundraising Goal!
Due to a record-breaking year at Bands at the Broad (thanks in large part to Auction Chair Liz Comay!), we are excited to announce that we are just $2,000 short of our $64,000 fundraising goal, which covers the cost of scholarships, instrument transportation and storage, and venues. So students, keep those
Spaghetti Challenge donations coming in!
Final Payment Due
The final payment of $1,000 (or your balance) is due on
Thursday, February 28. You can
pay online here (for a $15 processing fee) or leave your cash or check payment in the band room mailbox.
Mandatory Meeting
There is a
mandatory meeting for students, parents/guardians, chaperones, and administrators on
Thursday, March 14, at 7 pm in the band room.
