Last Tour Payments Due Tomorrow
The
2020 Wind Symphony California performance tour is right around the corner — March 12-15! If you committed to paying the full cost of the tour in installments, we are asking for your last payment of $340 by tomorrow,
Tuesday, February 18.

Bands at the Broad
THANK YOU to everyone who performed, volunteered, attended, and supported the 8th annual
Bands at the Broad benefit concert last Tuesday! The evening was fun and festive and full of great music, and it helped us raise the necessary funds to cover our tour scholarships.

Stairway of the Stars: Band
Online ticketing for the 71st Annual
Stairway of the Stars begins
Monday, February 24, at 10 am. This year's Stairway band concert will be on
Thursday, March 26 at 7 pm. (Stairway for choir is set for March 16 and Stairway for orchestra is on March 20.)
The Stairway of the Stars band concert features the
Samohi Wind Ensemble (Band V) and the
Samohi Jazz 1 band, plus the top 8th-grade ensembles from Lincoln, JAMS, and SMASH and the district-wide 5th-grade honor bands.

serve as an usher, you can get reimbursed for the cost of your ticket!)

Jazz Rehearsal Schedules
Please carefully review our online calendar at
samohiband.com/jazz, which has been updated up until spring break. Jazz 2 is now canceled for February 27, and there are many schedule changes in March.

Wayne Bergeron at the Jazz Spring Concert
Last week, Mr. Whaley announced that his good friend, world-famous trumpet player
Wayne Bergeron, will be playing with the Jazz Band 1 and Jazz Combo 1 at their
spring concert on
Sunday, May 10 at the Catalina Bar and Grill!
"Wayne is quite simply one of the greatest trumpet players in the world and the top call studio trumpet player in Los Angeles," said Mr. Whaley. "[He] played the Academy Awards broadcast on the same night our jazz band played our concert. Everyone has heard him, but they just didn't know who they were hearing. Now, you will get a chance to meet him in person!"

This will be Mr. Bergeron's second time as a guest artist with the Samohi Jazz bands. Since 2004, the jazz program has made it a tradition to include world-famous jazz artists at its spring concerts, and has had the pleasure of playing with such legends as Gordon Goodwin, Bobby Shew, Eric Marienthal, Justo Almario, Bob Mintzer, Andy Martin and Bob McChesney.
