Fall Concert Tuesday, Oct. 30
Our first concert is only three weeks away, starting at 7 pm at Barnum Hall on October 30. All five bands will be performing! Come and see what your kids have been learning, bring your family, eat at the Concert Cafe starting at 6 pm, and have fun!

Program Notes
* You may pre-order tickets using the ticket order envelope that your student receives in band class this week, or order online at this link:

  * If you are using a ticket pre-order envelope, please return it to the mailbox in the Band Room no later than Wednesday, October 24 .
* At the concert, we will announce the winners of the Marching Band Raffle.  Buy your raffle tickets today!
* Concert formal attire for students: Most concert dresses have been delivered to the Band Room (just a few are on back order). Students will have an opportunity to try them on tomorrow during their concert band class. Please remember that all new dresses arrive very long and must be HEMMED prior to the Fall Concert. Take your dresses home tomorrow to be sure that you can walk in them. If you are borrowing a dress from the Bands, please do not cut any fabric.

Free Masterclass with Harvey Pittel This Tuesday
On Tuesday, at 4 pm in the music building, join a masterclass with celebrated saxophonist Harvey Pittel. This is a big deal! All are invited -- especially saxophone and clarinet players. 
Bob Cole Honors Festival at CSULB
The fourth  Bob Cole Conservatory Honors Festival  is January 4-6, 2019, with applications due on December 14. This festival brings together the most talented student musicians from across Southern California to perform in a Wind Symphony, a Concert Choir, and String Chamber Ensemble.  >> Read more on samohiband.com

SCSBOA All-Southern honor group applications due by Friday, November 2. You will need the Director Member Number of your concert band instructor, so don't wait until the last minute to ask Mr. Sakow or Mr. McKeown.  >> Read more on samohiband.com

We are asking each VMB student to sell 20 tickets by October 30, when we will announce the winners at the fall concert.

**Since this football game against Beverly Hills has been moved to a Thursday, playing pep squad will be optional.
***At the October 26 game, the Viking Marching Band will perform "Wonderland" in full uniform at halftime. Invite your friends and family -- it's the only time you can see the show at SMC!
