Band Parents Association / Bands at the Broad Planning Meeting on Tuesday, January 8
Right when we get back from winter break, we will have a combined
Band Parents Association and Bands at the Broad planning meeting in the
Band Room at 6:30 pm. All are welcome!

'Side Show' Parent Meeting January 8
There will be a
mandatory parent meeting for all students in the Pit Orchestra on
Tuesday, January 8, from 7:30-8:30 pm. in the Band Room. We'll gather right after the Bands at the Broad/BPA meeting at 6:30 pm!

Winter Concert This January 15
Come see the wonderful work your students have been doing in
Concert Band (Period 5),
Symphonic Band (Period 3), and
Symphonic Winds (Period 1) at our Winter Concert this
January 15 at 7 pm. The
Viking Marching Band + Color Guard will also perform the music from their award-winning show,
Wonderland!
Concert Cafe Starts at 6 pm
Come at 6 pm to enjoy the Concert Cafe with your family before the show.

General admission tickets are available
at this link or at the door on the night of the concert.
Note: Since the concert is only a week after we get back from break, we will
not be sending home ticket envelopes. Sales will be online and at the door
only. $10 for adults and $5 for students/seniors.

Winter Concert Rehearsal This Tuesday
In preparation for the January 15 Winter Concert, the marching band will have a rehearsal this
Tuesday from 7:12 to 9:12 a.m.
The second rehearsal is tentatively scheduled for after school on
Friday, January 11, the week after break.

Florida A&M Marching Band Coming on Dec. 29
The Florida A&M University (FAMU) marching band, the "Marching 100," is coming to Los Angeles to participate in the 2019 Tournament of Roses Rose Parade in Pasadena on New Year's Day, and Samohi is welcoming them to use the field for rehearsal on
Saturday, December 29.
This would be a great opportunity for any marching band students who are in town to earn volunteer hours and see a great show band at work. Mr. McKeown is also working on arranging a clinic with the band from around 12-2 pm that day. Those interested in attending and/or volunteering
should contact Mr. McKeown directly.

Marching Band Banquet at El Texate
Plans for this year's marching band banquet have been finalized. Students and staff will enjoy an early dinner at
El Texate restaurant on
Friday, January 18, at 4:30 pm. Afterwards, parents and family members are invited to join the students in the
Samohi cafeteria for a potluck dessert and awards party at
6:30 pm. A dessert signup sheet will be circulated in January. Dinner is free, but we recommend that each student bring a $5 tip.

You are invited to join the Samohi Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble at the beautiful Eli and Edythe Broad Stage for our 7th annual benefit concert and silent auction,
Bands at the Broad! This is our main fundraiser to support the Samohi band touring program, which benefits all students. Tickets go on sale on Monday, January 7, and we have an exciting program in store!

We are asking each Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble family to bring in
two auction items and at least
one bottle of wine
valued at $30 or more for a wine raffle.

To help fund the Wind Ensemble Rome Tour, brave volunteers raise money to get cold spaghetti and sauce dumped on their heads!
For each donation to the Spaghetti Challenge, an anonymous donor will give $25 to the Westside Food Bank. You can donate to someone, or nominate someone to get spaghetti'd,

Tour payment number three, for $1,000, is due on December 21, 2018.

This is payment three out of four. Please try to get it in on time, as we need the funds to make payments to the airlines and to our tour operator!
